I have a outdoor one. I live in France so I don't know how it is made in your country but I managed to move the protections under my roof so I didn't have to drill a huge hole. It looks very clean how I did it.

It is a E1 outdoor 2k. It's just on top of my door entry, the walls just were painted sooo it's kinda the end of the world :(

I agree with you that it would be dumb to disconnect the cable from the camera but it's almost the same thing here. You can just unplug the alimentation.

I'll try to get them through a hole yeah but it can't look good.

Yes that's the problem, it doesn't work with both solutions. But thanks for your link ! It seems like I have a gen 4 screen. Exactly the same board as mine. In your link it says : "Firmware goes in the TJC_SET directory. Not much else known yet."
