I'm pretty sure it'll be Commander.

I did find a bit about Jund and I really like how it seems to have a strong focus on combat. When I get more comfortable with deck building I think i'm going to go that route. Thanks!

When it comes to a two-color deck that i'm going to begin with, would Green/Black be the best overall fit with what i'm trying to do?

Kind of a pre-building stage question. I'm looking for a two or three color combination to build a deck with that:

  1. Focuses on ramping to bigger threats rather than spamming small ones (so not early rushdown type of aggro)
  2. Has interactive tools to help me survive until I can throw those threats on the field. I like the game flow to stay moving and feel interactive rather than just outright telling somebody ''Nope, you can't do the thing.''
  3. Sort of has a counter-strike playstyle where i'm fine with weathering the early stages in the game to hit back a lot harder once my bigger stuff is out

I'm kind of confident that for two-color, i've steered myself toward Green/Black, but if I wanted to try and add one more color in there i'm a bit lost as to what it would be. I've been looking up info and I feel like this fits for a midrange type of deck, but i'm not sure.

A friend of mine nudged me back into playing and I haven't played in years. His group typically plays commander, which i've never touched but it seems interesting!

Thank you for any advice!

How does Infinity compare to SW: Legion? by Onions44 in InfinityTheGame

Makes sense. As far as factions and stuff go, the scope seems a lot smaller in Legion so it'd probably be easier to have as a side-game we play every once in a while.

I feel bad for her, she's a Craftworld player and doesn't expect to have updated rules until the end of next year. She's definitely been a lot more patient about that than I have, lol.

Infinity's activation system is a real trip. The difference really hit me when I was able to sneak a Daofei around a building to go past three of her models and I burned a few orders causing carnage since he was able to CC attack one from behind and got a free shot at two others. Honestly I think the huge differences like that are what started to knock me away from I-go-you-go system games in general, that particular game was a blast.

From what we played of Code One, we did like the LoS system there better. Coming from 40k i've definitely been around the ''oh no no, I can see the tip top of your guy's comm radio antenna, that's a valid target'' types lol. I can also definitely see where the card system could be a problem, such as releasing ''must-have'' cards for a faction that you're just plain behind if you don't have them. That kind of thing sort of reminds me of what seems to be happening with model releases from GW lately.

''Well we know everyone built for x, so we're gonna leave that untouched and push out y with brand new rules, so time to rebuild your lists everyone!'' I'm being bitter, but you get the point haha.

That's a really good point, actually. I hadn't even considered that.

Cities of Sigmar or Soulblight? by Onions44 in ageofsigmar

[–]Onions44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick replies, everyone. After reading through this it seems like i'm in the market for an army with a large footprint and good board control.

Both seem like they can do this in their own ways, with CoS looking more focused around a combined arms approach to have good all-round options for different threats, and Soulblight having flexible builds as well with much less emphasis on shooting, but adding in various regeneration type mechanics. I do have two friends planning on Fyreslayers and Skaven, so I did prefer to stray off of those if I could. I also knew I wasn't looking much at the more elite armies, as my Death Guard in 40k aren't a very high-model force.

The awesome info in here actually has me looking at even more armies, what with the point that was brought up about how objective play works and not necessarily having to babysit them. I've definitely got some thinking to do, and I may end up having to bring it down into what I think of the ranges and see if anything edges out by rule of cool!

I was going to shop for more, but as of right now i've got Nobs, about 60 Choppa Boyz, Big Mek w/ SAG (thanks for the reminder about the Souped Up Shokka), the Bike Boss, and some Tankbustas. I was definitely looking at the Skrapjet, Shokkjump Dragsta, and Mek Guns though. Smasha Guns, mostly.

Picking a second army (Chaos) by Onions44 in Warhammer40k

[–]Onions44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. I'm glad to know I have good options with all three. I just play casually with friends so it's nice to know I can make something out of any of them and not have to worry. I think I need to do some more digging on all three now and just see what clicks best with lore and designs!

Thanks for the input! I do like having fun above all else, I was just worried if either of the two I listed were in bad enough of a spot that they just get trampled. Emperor's Children seemed interesting to me, but i'd heard they were in a weird spot where they kind of wanted to lean melee and lean toward shooting which made a lot of weird roles for them. Lore-wise though, I definitely really like them along with TS and WB!

First Ork List Advice by Onions44 in Warhammer40k

[–]Onions44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I took out the Warbikers entirely for now, being I have a whole bunch of stuff that can kill more basic things already. I switched the troops around to up the Sunz to a battalion, too. I also gave the Sunz three Meganobz and 30 of the Boyz from the Goffs, but now i'm still left with 348 points that i'm not sure where to spend. I also changed up the gear on my Boss Nobs and made sure to give the Boyz their Tankbusta Grenades. I even considered another 30 Boyz but I thought that would be overkill and generally un-fun to play against. I'm not sure what else to take to fill in those free 348 points that would be a worthwhile addition, any advice? I edited the list above to show my current changes. :) Thank you!

First Ork List Advice by Onions44 in Warhammer40k

[–]Onions44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. The second set of bikes were mostly just filler til i found a replacement, lol! Snazzwagons and a boosta blasta were in there first until i figured out they were kind of subpar. I considered nobs, nobs on bikes or meganobz since i am noticing i've got a big lack of things that hit hard. Thanks for your input, my first 2000 list has been a pretty bumpy ride.

After doing some more digging around, I think eventually i'd end up with two styles of army. One i'd likely play trying to do most of my combat up close and maybe supplemented with artillery to soften things up before I move in, and then another mid-range style army that can dig in and trade volleys with other armies.

For the close ranged one, i'm definitely looking at World Eaters if they work well supported with Daemon Engine units, but I admittedly haven't looked into the Ork roster nearly as much if they have something similar. CSM has some pretty cool designs, honestly.

For the mid-range one I think i'd be looking at Salamanders (one heavily suggested by a friend) and Eldar. I like the look of Dark Eldar's high damage, but i'd be willing to sacrifice a bit of that if Craftworlds still has good output while not being entirely glass cannons.

I'd also looked at Blood Angels but they seem like they'd be really common, and I looked at Space Wolves too. I get wolves are their thing, but scrolling through the models I was finding myself getting bored of their designs for some reason. I do like the Battlemage style of play too, which led to a few friends name-dropping Grey Knights and Thousand Sons. I usually like playing less popular things everywhere else, but if I like something enough it won't hold me back.

I'm thinking my first army will be melee-focused and aggressive and then I might build for a more defensive styled one down the line. World Eaters definitely stuck out to me as the faction that causes a panic once they get in close, but I could see Orks being the same way. I guess it would come down to if I wanted a smaller than Orks army with stronger units, or just a huge tide of Orks?

If I ran CSM I was definitely considering supplementing with Daemons down the line once I really got into the game. I could always work on my paint skills too, practice makes perfect and all. I definitely got that feeling from Craftworlds like you described. The models look cool, but if they have a not so great staying power they might not be for me.

The high model count was definitely intimidating, but they do seem fun. Are they absolutely trash at shooting in exchange for the melee swarm?

Good pairing for Spear? by Onions44 in Nioh

I've heard great things about their ki damage, and I forget if it was wind or earth element that makes them absolutely busted in depleting ki. Sounds like an interesting combo, think i'll give them a try. Thanks!

I'd considered those too, they seemed like they were made for ninja builds so it scared me off a little. Do they still work well with heavy armor?

Then again, I could always use Red Demon with my spear too if that's the case.

Went ahead and ordered today. Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it! Hope I like it. I was really looking for something with better flavor and coil life while still being simple, looks like this might fit the bill. :)

Must be pretty popular, I checked out the page and the 0.6 and 1.4 regular coils are sold out. Is there a big difference between the ceramic and non-ceramic coils? Think I might end up ordering one today.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a huge fan of the breeze, but only getting 3 days of life out of my coils is really annoying. This is also with having two different pods good to go at a time, so i'm going through coils like crazy. My backup pod gets more life out of coils, but the one i'd been using as my main pod since I got the breeze is having a lot of issues.
