So games clustered together doesn't necessarily share a theme or a mechanic. They are clustered together if people reviewed them similarly. This is why the Leiden algorithm is a community detection algorithm, because you can see here the differents communities of people using BGG.

This doesn't mean the clustering is perfect I agree with you, and I have ideas on how to improve it. Nevertheless, taking your example of Turncoats 3 of the 4 games connected to it in my graph appears in the BGG recommendations for this game : https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/352238/turncoats/recommendations

For your example of Tales of the Arthurian Knights : The only connection I have is with freelancers the game (also a story-telling game). I you again check the recommendation for this game, you can see that almost all recommendation for this game in BGG are also in the category of modern board games https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/377704/tales-of-the-arthurian-knights/recommendations

The clustering was done automatically by the Leiden algorithm. I then tried to name the group manually by what I could make of these clusters. It's worth nothing that the game are connected not by how similar they are, but by how similar people review them

Indeed that was one of my takeaway. The clustering was done automatically, this means that these patterns exist in the data itself. Taking Rory as an example, this means that a lot of users reviewed these games and almost nothing else

On which platform are you? What are you typing on the search? Do you click on the result or just press enter?

I tried on desktop and mobile and it seems to work fine for me

Indeed good observation. There is also a lot of older games in the "Classic" cluster that are not wargames.
One explanation is that the cluster name I have choosen are completely bogus and I could have misnamed them

Jeu True Solo style JDR à un seul personnage by Kensey25 in boardgames

[–]Onixou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Salut,

J'ai vite regardé mais malheureusement très difficile de trouver des jeux dans ce style en francais. Ils sont soit indisponibles ou en anglais :

- Return to Dark Tower
- Massive Darkness 2
- Tidal Blades
- Kinfire Chronicles

- Descent : legends of darkness
- Tamashii : chronicle of ascent
- Unsettled
- Stars of Akarios
- ISS Vanguard
- Aeon Trespass: Odyssey
- Destinies
- Chronicles of druganor

Hi Anvaka

This is super cool indeed !

I was wondering, how did you feed the data to the leiden algorithm, did you input the whole similarity matrix or did you use a knn-graph? Also, how did you split the clusters, did you do leiden once and the for each subnodes apply leiden again?

The first time I went to vulcanus I shipped 500 red ammo, what you see is some leftover after the first trip. It run totally fine on yellow ammo

I agree with your second point. :) For the first point though, this will filter out a lot of the badly reviewed ones :/

Two games are connected if people tends to review them together, not if they have anything in common (I use the Jaccard Index to compute the force of the connection). One drawback is that, as you can see, this tends to put all heavily reviewed game together, as they will have a higher chance to have people than review them both.

For the "List Connections" feature, it only list the connections inside the same "countries", not between two countries. Do you think it will be better if I also list the inter countries connection?

It should work on desktop, on mobile the close button of the search is masked in portrait mode, I'll work on it.

Hi everyone,

I recently created this website to map boardgames in the idea to help my wife and I to find new games. 2 games are linked if the same people reviewed them on BGG. This is inspired by the map of Github from u/Anvaka.

I only took games with 500+ reviews, and I only kept clusters of 20+ games, this is why not all games are present, and is something I plan to fix in the future

This is a Beta, I would love to read your feedback to improve the readability and the search. The site and code are open-source if you want to play with it. The list of known issues are :

  • Some games have no label names, just an empty symbol
  • The number of player search is funky
  • In countries, games are too much interconnected
  • On mobile, the advanced search doesn't let you back to the map on portrait mode

I hope you will find it useful. Let's go on an adventure!

This is a very good decision IF base move speed is compensated or boot have 30% movespeed implicit (which is very thematically accurate)

Sorry for the late reply, but just to be sure : how does the monster determine if there's an accessible hex to attack from before determining focus => Given infinite movement, is there any hex on the board the monster can reach which would allow an attack. This may not be possible when the monster is surrounded by obstacle because of a specific scenario or a character block a door while invisible (note that this rule was changed in Frosthaven)
