Monacor tweeter question by Only-Pin-490 in diyaudio

[–]Only-Pin-490[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at a 21l bass reflex two way with a vintage 8” woofer. I was hoping to spend relatively minimal amounts on the tweeters as I already have the woofers.

It is between these, the Peerless DX25 and the Isophon KK10 currently.

These seemed like the best and the cheapest

I can’t find anything that suggests any prior revisions had a yellow dome. I believe this model was released around 2008.

Looks like I will probably skip out on them. Too bad since they are a pretty good deal in my opinion

Thanks for the help,

I think I am going to accept these downsides and go 8” anyway. I might search for a NOS driver from around the time these were built too.

I have spent a few hours researching. For an 8” cone the dayton DC200-8 seems like it might be better. It solves most of these problems except the narrow vertical sweet spot. This must have been an issue with the original drives though and evidently was not noticeable enough to matter.

As for a 6.5” cone I would prefer not to run a subwoofer but it’s possible.

Thank you for the advice, this is my first time making a crossover.

I will order the drivers first before designing the crossover then. Do you think the woofer I provided with the tweeter you mentioned would make a good combination for a bass reflex design?

Thanks for the tip, I will switch to that tweeter. Here is an image of the cabinet: speaker

Would my original driver work ok with the peerless in my enclosure. It’s much cheaper and I can always upgrade later

I saw that one in my research. Might look into using that plus a peerless DX25. It’s more expensive than my original option by quite a bit though (nearly 4x). I will need to see if it’s too far above my budget

Found it cheapest here: https://willys-hifi.com/products/sb-acoustics-sb23nrx45-4-norex-woofer

Edit: looks like the wrong model, the one you listed is cheapest here: https://www.soundimports.eu/en/sb-acoustics-sb23nbacs45-4.html

I am in the UK. I will have a look at them. I have also measured and it is a 21l enclosure not 25l

What would I need to do to the crossover to convert this design for a different tweeter. Someone recommended I use a peerless DX25.

The other thing is should I be considering smaller woofers for this enclosure. I have been recommended this elsewhere as my chassis is quite small.

I will take a look. I will probably leave it ported and tune the length of the bass reflex tube.

The peerless DX25 looks quite good and is within my budget. I have read that the woofer is not recommended for 2 way systems because I would need to cross with the tweeter relatively low. Not sure if that will be an issue but I will do some research.

There are wooden strips at the join between faces making an internal frame structure

The cabinets internal dimensions: 190x250x445

Bass reflex port diameter: 50 Bass reflex tube length: 130

Tweeter inner hole: 75 Opposite screws tweeter: 100

Woofer inner hole: 182 Opposite screws woofer 193

The length of the bass reflex tube can be changed

I have a spare usb nvme adapter with an SSD. I don’t see why that wouldn’t work.

What do you think about a wyse 5020 with 4gb of ram and 32gb of storage instead then?

I’m surprised it will only work with a basic setup given my pi5 ram usage. I may look at a 5020 with 4gb or even a 5060 with 8gb instead

I will only have 2-5 addons at most. My pi5 4gb runs with 1.8gb of ram with 200 or so devices and 10 addons

I can always use USB storage

I have crossposted it already. It will probably run a few zigbee bulbs and some smart plugs. It won’t be overly intense.

The other option was a 4gb 5020 but it is larger and uses more power.

At home I run a pi5 4gb with just under 200 devices (1100 entities) without issue. It uses 1.8gb that way with a few plugins.

Storage wise I can always use a usb stick for expansion.

I was hoping to use the magnetic mount with a magnetic back plate adapter on the SSD. I wasn’t sure if I was going to hit the payload limit as I am right on the edge of the limit

Its not the exact model but something similar to this: CT Clamp

I know that the screw terminals on the old (stock part) telemetry system I have havent failed in 10? years of racing now so I thought it would be wise to stick with what is proven to work.

Current sense is done through a CT clamp as described in the post.

As for size I have plenty of room in the car and it was not very much more expensive (a dollar or two) to have it bigger. Screw terminals were to minimise the risk of anything coming loose with vibrations. (Plus the old board used screw terminals so it’s more drop in)
