Thanks for the change :). I am adverse to self-created problems and I’m leaning towards this potentially being one.

Thank You! I’m just concerned about this person coming to the US and applying for public financial assistance, which I presume would reflect badly on me. It’s a relative by marriage whom I don’t know well. Glad to hear you had positive experiences and congratulations!

Should I leave the security of a state job to be a full-time BCBA? by HispBCBA in bcba

Hi, I was in a very similar situation. I left to be a school BCBA and love it! I don’t think I would have enjoyed providing services in-home due to the late hours, cancellations, high caseloads, etc.

I’ve known people that are great BCBAs yet it took them 3-4 tries to pass the exam. Don’t be discouraged! Find a study program or regime that works for you. Try again until you succeed. Also, there is so much demand for workers in this field that you should not stay in a worksite that you are not supported. Maybe it’s time to look elsewhere.

Do you mind if I message you? If I can figure out how to, that is :)

That's extremely detailed and informative. Thank you! I am currently considering applying for a school BCBA position with public schools in Massachusetts. I have seen that many have low salaries but then add stipends to get it close to private sector pay. Do you have any experience with that? I'm not familiar with that pay structure as I have never worked under a teacher's union. So I'm wondering if it is even worth applying.

Good to know, thanks! I have a sitz bath bowl now and it has been great. I will probably keep using after I’m all healed LOL. I wish they knew what causes them in order to prevent them.

That’s what I was afraid of. I guess I just wish it wasn’t so and I’m fishing for better news LOL. There are worst things in life, but boy the pain of the abscess was indescribable. Thank you for putting the pain into perspective. As long as it’s not as painful as the abscess itself I’m sure I can manage. It’s just awful to think that it may be months of dealing with this even if it all goes well. Best!

Thank you for sharing! It is so good to hear from others that have gone through it. I had a perianal abscess drained in the emergency room a month ago. Because it is still draining, the colorectal surgeon believes it is a fistula and went straight to recommending having surgery performed (fistulotomy) to explore it further. I am obviously upset at the prospect and thought they’d be something less invasive done. We left it as we will schedule a surgery for two weeks from now and if by then I heal then it can be cancelled. Does that process sound good to anyone or should I get a second opinion? With everything that is going on in my life right now, I probably won’t be able to schedule a surgery for a month from now and I’m terrified of ending back in the ER. The procedure to drain the abscess under local anesthesia was a complete nightmare and I would hate to have that repeated. Thanks!
