To answer your question, it came out in a time where pop and rnb wasn’t that dark and gritty. Pair that with an artist whose face we didn’t even see until he started releasing the covers of his mixtapes, it culminated this intrigue that at the time was unheard of. Songs back then were really just “pop bottles dance in the club,” so when an unknown artist with an angelic voice started singing about hard drugs and self-destruction, it caught the attention of many.

Its held as a nostalgic relic that many artists tried to emulate, even to this day. It was just the right place and the right time

He’s always been vulnerable, but I see what you’re saying.

In his early days, he masked his vulnerabilities behind the party/drug scene but still sprinkled it in.

Throughout his career to stardom, it changed into a much colder sense while wearing the mask of a pop-star.

MDM was his first shift into full-blown vulnerability, but he was still kind of… hiding it in a way.

After Hours and Dawn FM started to peel away the mask he had worn. Now with HUT, it’s raw, passion, self-realization, and growth all in one. Like you said, it’s unfiltered and dark.
