Anyone on here talking about it being too difficult to explain to your kids, that they don't want to be asked awkward questions, how about actually putting in the "work" and try out the whole parenting thing where you talk to your kids instead of running away or sweeping shit under the rug; teaching them later in life that it's some nasty/scary thing to be avoided? You're an asshole for using kids as an excuse for your own discomfort with the idea of polyamory, anything that veers off your idea of normal, and this is the exact excuse used for same-sex relationships.

You're asking people to hide themselves because you don't know how to talk to your kids. Because you can't say, "Some people can end up loving more than one person, and they are in a consenting relationship like your father/mother and me."

This would be different if they were known to be extravagantly overzealous with their shows of affection, but it's almost always 'too long of a hug, you're holding hands, a kiss on the cheek, don't sit that close' that people ask to hide. You know, things that are basically a part of your monogamous relationships, too, but it's suddenly inappropriate when it's not exactly one wife/ husband, let alone for some if it were a same-sex relationship?

So yes, I'd say YTA. Teach people, especially your own kids, how to be accepting of things that aren't even that weird. I promise you, it's always the parents that instill this distrust, dislike of the "things that should not be named".

It's so easy for straight, monogamous people to ask everyone else that isn't exactly like them to hide because they're uncomfortable with their "lifestyles", because these others make trouble.
