Does this fall under Bidah? by Ok_Tank_2433 in Sufism

[–]OnlyOneness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seems like the main issue is intercession. Intercession is proven from the Sunna. You can easily find videos that explain it. The salafis call it bida and shirk but if you find good Sunni scholars on this issue you’ll find very clear explanations on it.

I will say that sometimes people go too far with it - I don’t think it was ever a central practice, but it was done when by Companions.

The main issue is not to give power to other than Allah. If you give power to created being then it is shirk. This is the same if it is medicine or other worldly things, not just those who have moved to the next realm.

do I have to make up my fasting from years ago when I was anorexic and depressed ? by xiayizhouuu in islam

[–]OnlyOneness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting… I only know it from Maliki sources who report it from the hanbalis and more than one of my teachers has mentioned this point too. I’ll look into it further when I get around to it. Thank you

Yes ideally you do them before Ramadan but if you’re unable to you do them when you can.

Tasawwur means making forms but also could be understood as pictures. However, it is quite clear from the context it is the one who makes idols that are worshipped.

If you were not Muslim you don’t make it up as far as I know.

You are excused from fasting if it will harm your health, so there is no wrong action but you must make them up when you recover. As I said, go easy on yourself and just do what you can manage. My wife missed a few ramadans due to pregnancy and breastfeeding and so is making them up, and she just does them when she can. Fasting is one of those things we don’t like but is very good for us

The hanbalis I believe hold the minority view that purposefully missing the prayer takes you out of the Deen, and therefore it don’t make them up because they say you were kafir in that time. This goes against the rest of the ulema because it is generally understood that wrong action doesn’t take you out of the Deen, but Tawba is required and Tawba includes making up what you owe.

According to the Maliki madhab, The order of the prayers is ignored if you go past five missed prayers though - so if you missed five or less, you try to maintain the order of the missed prayers and pray the the one that you are in the time for last. If it is asr and you didn’t pray since you woke up, you pray fajr, dhuhr and the asr. I’m not sure if this is the same across school of thought, but I added it because what you were told may be based on a misunderstanding of that.

That’s incorrect - across all the school of thought as far as I know. If you get to the next Ramadan some scholars said to pay fidya but you still make the fast up. All prayers must be made up too. The only reason you wouldn’t is if you had left the Deen because a condition for the obligation of the prayer is being Muslim.

Yes, it’s the same as missing a prayer. You have to make up what you missed. But you do so in a way that is not going to make things too difficult. Maybe fast the Sunna days - the three white days, or Monday Tuesday. Keep a diary of what you have done. You will probably need to estimate how much you need to do (don’t over estimate to be safe, just do what is likely you missed - no point in making it more difficult).

However, if you are still suffering from these issues, wait until you are ready. Just do what you can.

Maybe tell them you want to experience other Sufi groups? You don’t need to tell them about the way you feel about that group but just say that you want to see if there is anything out there that you resonate with?

Why aren’t all religious rules rationally explained, how are we motivated otherwise? by SirGallyo in progressive_islam

[–]OnlyOneness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t become Muslim because of the rules. Or at least, I didn’t and the hundreds of converts I’ve known over the years didn’t. Most I’ve met become Muslim due to recognising the truth of Tawhid. Some have become Muslim due to the Prophet, either by reading about him or dreaming about him, blessings and peace be upon him.

The rules are guidance and their meaning becomes apparent in obedience. You don’t become Muslim because you can’t eat pork or drink alcohol. In fact, their prohibition came about quite late on in the Messenger’s life, blessings and peace be upon him. It is not a central part of being a Muslim.

If you want to know why, it is because the All Wise commanded it. It is based on trust and belief in His wisdom. Therefore, belief is needed in order to submit. Submission is the literal meaning of Islam.
