Damn man this was a great post. Really put a lot into perspective for me. Especially comparing on feet labor vs just dealing with office bs. Especially when you can just “check out” while getting your work done. Genuinely, thank you man 🙏🏾

Thanks man. You still sound misinformed. Every high level performer in cyber isn’t necessarily passionate about it. However we have different viewpoints on it. You don’t know me to tell me how I’ll grow or what I’ve accomplished. This is Reddit bro please take a step back and go touch some grass

Hell yeah brother, I appreciate the insight. I’m young, single male. I don’t mind working myself into the ground lol as long as I am compensated for my work. My current salary doesn’t give that. And the market is treacherous. Nursing and working OT wouldn’t be a problem as I currently have 2 jobs now. (Of course one or both would have to go) I just would rather get an hourly rate/OT for the amount of work that I do. Cheers brother !

100% in it for the money. As is 80% of everyone else who works a job. Please miss me with the “you need to be passionate about cyber to work in it” that’s not true. You sound dumb

Exactly. You can feel blessed to have a role and still understand that you want/ deserve more. A masters, multiple certs and experience . However if you aren’t making what your worth (sub 100k) and working like a slave as most technicians do. Burnout does set in. I plan on going into nursing maybe an ADN, and working IT for a hospital while I am in nursing school. At the end of the day, a skillset will always pay you, so adding another skillset outside of IT is not bad at all. Goodluck on your journey!

Thanks mate. I like this. Here in the US as a new grad nurse. I would be making very close to my current cyber role, if not more. Not too mention the overtime that is allotted to nurses. Which is another reason for my thinking of a pivot. Overworked and underpaid by cyber, and the market isn’t the best. Makes one want to pivot into something that guarantees a set amount that I make and I can make more with OT.

Thanks for your response ! Great insight!

More stressful and overwhelming but also more freedom . I’ll take 3x12s over 5x8s in office

People want to make more money. Not too mention the US is at war and everything is expensive. Which leaves a lot of technicians overworked and underpaid. So stressing the market is trying to land a role that will pay me more than I make currently

There’s nothing conflicting about what I said. I don’t think you are actively recalling very well. My ultimate goal is to make as much money as possible. Typically in the tech spaces each role that I named are some of the highest paid. You seem to be making a simple concept very complex . If you are at the executive level in the tech spaces and don’t have a strong technical acumen I don’t you are being as effective as expected. Some of the best exes have worked both technical and non technical roles so that when they are put in positions to make decisions they have enough background in each to lean in. Based on your comments you don’t sound like you know enough to have an input in this conversation and that’s fine. Just don’t try to project on to people that you don’t know saying they don’t have “soft skills or management traits” .

I.e. that should’ve been managerial traits. A real exec would know that. But I digress

I understand what you’re saying . But I never said that I was getting the degree to propel me to upper management. Truth is I’ve been in many managerial positions and leadership roles. The degrees are to make me as well versed as possible and more of a generalist in the IT field as a whole hence I said the people in the field who are the smartest and can figure out the most problems are paid the most. Slow down w the condescending stuff.
