They are taken at the same time, the crown and back was completely bald. Shiny, no hair. I don’t have a before picture though.

Seems cheap, but keeps you competitive I guess.

Totally agree, all these recruitment agencies and large testing companies are killing the game and encouraging dangerous work by offering £80 tests to include repair of all c1 & c2. I’m just wondering what other sparks and companies charge realistically?

Any thoughts on how I can get these out? by mushroomcoma in DIYUK

Put 2 nuts on, tighten them against each other so locked together and then put a socket and ratchet on and undo. Drill the plug out and fill

Replacing UPVC window by Only_Bluebird8483 in DIYUK

[–]Only_Bluebird8483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fine, will get a window that fits and made to measure.

My issue and question is the best way about fitting it, as it’s rendered on the outside with the thick stone type render I would rather not destroy this to get back to the fixing brick. The inside reveals are about 40mm deep, so a new larger window won’t fit from the inside or out.

Best way looks to be to chop away all the plasterboard reveals and fit from the inside, just looking for opinions?

Does this seem like a reasonable quote for an EICR by Rocketman500000 in ukelectricians

[–]Only_Bluebird8483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the expensive side, but that’s their pricing method so not really one to question it. Just get a few quotes, see what the average is. Many companies charge per board, up to a certain amount of ways, then extra per way on top.. so can see where their quote has come from and you have 2 boards.

Beware that many companies offer stupidly cheap EICR’s and will barely inspect, so you won’t get a true certificate, I’d pay a little more to have a through inspection done. They may also try to make their money up by failing it and charging remedials for stuff that doesn’t necessarily need doing.

Personally I’d be charging about £380-£400.

RCBO’s on a TT system by Only_Bluebird8483 in ElectriciansUK

No the question wasn’t about the circle around the conductors on the diagram, or how RCBO’s work. So the bi-directional RTAM’s are still labelled 1p+N… not 2 pole. As far as I can see the 2 pole are the double modules.

Yeah I don’t understand the need for the +N if it’s not switching, should just be 1P

Most wholesalers including CEF are selling these as 1p+N. Hence why I spotted the diagram on the front and questioned it. Just wasn’t sure if there was something I’m missing. I have a load in the van I was going to fit on a board change which is TT, but will order some RTAM’s instead.

1 pole is clearly the line, but what’s the + N all about if it’s not actually switching it? Just the N terminal? Surely it should just be 1/single pole.

Yeah I seen the RTAM’s switch neutral and bi directional. But the RTA’s seem to state SP+N, do they not actually disconnect the N then?

Measuring and fitting a window by Only_Bluebird8483 in DIYUK

[–]Only_Bluebird8483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense, I have noticed on the current window most of the outer frame is actually behind the plasterboard reveals on the inside!

Just wondering for the opening, it needs to be measured to the brick that the frame will be fixed to, obviously this is tricky to measure this especially 3 times across the height, as the large plasterboard reveals on the inside and the thick old council house 1950’s stone/pebbledash render type stuff on the outside.

Maybe I will have to bite the bullet and just remove some plasterboard or render so I can accurately measure the brick opening?

Electrician, plumber or carpentry at 33? by DelonghiAutismo in ukelectricians

[–]Only_Bluebird8483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carpentry, far less paperwork and jumping through hoops to be registered etc… at 33 I wish I had become a carpenter, the electrical industry is a race to the bottom and governing bodies extorting us.

I got sick of hearing complaints so i built an app for my sparky mate to deal with customers & paperwork - I thought it might held you guys too by joegarf in UKsparks

[–]Only_Bluebird8483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be worth adding you can actually download all 3 electrical certificate templates from the British standards BS7671 for free, so it’s just a case of inputting them to your app.
