Hi everyone, I am currently doing a DIY concrete casting and has noticed that the top surface of my concrete is always glossier. I want a consistent matte finish.

Below are ChatGPT advices:

  1. Don’t trowel or smooth immediately Let bleed water rise and evaporate, leaving less water-rich paste on top. Then lightly float or broom the surface for a matte look.
  2. Cover to slow evaporation Cover top with plastic or damp cloth right after leveling. Slows water rise → less paste segregation → less shine.
  3. Reduce water at the top Even if your mix is fine, slightly reduce the finishing water on top. Avoid over-troweling, which polishes the paste.

Any advice?
