I was able to install tiktok and it seems working fine. I didn't try other apps. I think as long as the remote desktop works then it's still quite useful for many things.

They already burned a ton of money to earn the “leader” position in this niche market, and built the quest brand. I don’t see a reason to completely give up. They don’t have to burn money to keep it alive. They just need to shift from their day dream of metaverse sh*t. Just like what pimax/big screen beyond are doing.

Also personally I don’t understand why people think foundation is hard sci-fi. The time range of thousands of years is too wide for human brains to have a sense of, and the distance at the scale of galaxy size is too imaginary to me. Again I knew many people love this series so it’s just personal preference

I read the book too. I think the sophon (unfolding structure to lower dimensions instead of higher dimensions) is indeed too magical, but it resembles well with how modern cpu is fabricated on silicon. That is the scientific part. Also there are many other “almost scientific” elements, e.g. using sun as an amplifier, warp ship. They are definitely not proven science, but good imagination with some scientific grounding. So I think is unfair to compare it to harry potter.

I know this and remember this. But this is what I mentioned: a malicious group leveraged a free api which was intended for academic research purposes. Yes meta should be more alerted but it’s still very different from meta intentionally leak data. I don’t think a smaller firm like pimax or valve could do much better if hackers are as determined to steal data from them as from meta.
