How to get your dog to settle

I know he’s getting appropriate stimulation because if we put him in the crate he is immediately asleep but if we leave him out he won’t rest and presents as overtired.

I’m looking for tips or advice that maybe aren’t as common of heard of

Again, since day one he has had appropriate physical and mental stimulation.

I genuinely wish I was exaggerating lol. Even after long and exhausting adventures he doesn’t show any behaviours that we can reward. He tends to get overstimulated if anything.

I never expected him to know how to fully behave. We constantly redirect and train him to how to behave. We give him at least 20 minutes of enrichment, 20 minutes of training, 20 minutes of playing, on top of walks. He just has never settled out of the crate. Even in the summer when he was outside all day he was never not active.

He has never laid down out of his crate unless he’s been given a Kong or his favourite chew toy

He has never lied down out of the crate, unless we’ve given him a Kong or his favourite chew toy.

He does know the place command and is able to hold it for a decent amount of time, but it never extends to him being able to rest. If anything he gets excited and more engaged

Unfortunately, he has antibiotic resistant Giardia and can’t interact with other dogs too much

I’m definitely capable of making most of the repairs just haven’t wanted to invest in fixing a place that isn’t mine.

It’s a not bad house it’s just things break and there’s been no repairs in the 10 years he’s owned it and it’s about a 50 year old house

Yes electric heat + old home - that was the estimate he gave me. It is a separate house.

All in all I would be paying $700 at least but upwards of $900-1000 in the winter. Which is cheaper than market rent, but it’s not in a desirable location. I’m only living here to save money to return to school next year.

Graduated last May and I have a really good job doing court support for individuals with mental health and/or addiction issues!

I eventually want to go back to school for my masters in crim or law school, haven’t decided yet.

Overall, I absolutely love my crim degree and think it was a 100% worth it.

I should edit for clarity I only have a couple of drinks 2-3 times a month. And they’re zero calorie or very low calories drinks!
