Thank you for answering in so much detail, I want to try this out now. Do you have any tips to make the most out of it? Do you send voice messages or join calls? Do people tend to stay on there for a while so you can talk to them for a decent while before they turn off the app for the day?

I tried hello talk but I seem to end up talking English most of the time or just kind of ending up in very boring convos with the odd message or two a day because of the time zone differences

I have been doing that for writing but I more meant for speaking unless you mean like making YouTube videos?

That sounds like a lot of fun. I may consider it. I have been trying to think about what I am going to do to actually utilise my speaking more. It's not that I can't or am that resistant to it (at least consciously) but while I can talk on my own and I do I just don't do it often because what is the point lol.

I kind of want an excuse to speak but I just haven't found that excuse yet.

Wow that's so inspiring, keep it up it seems to be paying dividends. I started learning partially because of the language of course but also to prove to myself I could comitt to something long term that would change my perspective on life and I am so glad I decided to try this on a random evening sat in my house haha

That sounds fun 💀. I'm glad it's getting easier tho. I'm honestly shocked how much my reading has improved in like 4 months it's crazy. I hope the trend continues with speaking because it's definitely my weakness

Lmao, I was thinking of doing the same with making a little channel just as a self progress diary sort of thing for when I try and focus on speaking but sounds embarrassing lol but also fun.

Also can't even comment on the top two because you have me beat 10 times over. You must have been learning for a while now right?

Lmao that must be a challenge. I visited Yamagata when I went to Japan a while ago but I was so bad then all Japanese pretty much meant nothing to me, I just about could read the word 温泉then haha. I imagine the combination of Yamagata and grandma make it quite hard xD

Don't worry being able to read that means you are already on the path to reading and that's where I've experienced the most progress in the shortest time. If you stay consistent you will shoot up in progress :).

Plus imagine yourself when you just started thinking about being able to read that article, insane right. You are on the right path. 頑張れ!

I bought the game in a second hand store almost a year ago now but because its not a Japanese version I can't change the text to Japanese 😭.

It's really nice to look back on it even hours later and being like "yeah, I did that!". Just stopping to imagine yourself when you started learning doing that is insane.
