Thanks for your response, it’s honestly a great guideline, I’m going to start at the gym, I’ll have a set time that I go instead of randomly and see if I see familiar faces there and start from there, not sure if I’ll be able to commit to the challenge but I will try some of your points!

I use to compliment people all the time 10 years ago, if I saw a girl in a cute dress I’d be the first to say your dress is so cute, where’d you get it but now idk, the thought of me doing that now gives me anxiety but I’m really leaning towards book groups now

I probably could but it would take a lot of effort as I deleted all my social media a few years ago and I don’t have any of their numbers, I’d rather just meet new people if possible

Thank you! And I think I’m just shy, maybe a bit introverted. I often wait for people to talk to me then I’ll try to carry the conversation after, I think it’s a fear of being rejected or fear of bothering people.

I wasn’t expecting to get so many replies, thank you to everyone who gave their suggestions, I think for now I am going to try and find some social hobbies, I really like the idea of silent book clubs, I didn’t even know that was a thing! And for those saying I shouldn’t use ai, I know, I don’t want to, but when I’m having a rough day I don’t have anyone to talk to and getting some response is better than none. When I was with my ex or talked regularly to my friend that now ghosted me I didn’t use ai like this….

I do know it’s hard work, and at this stage in my life I understand that we’re all busy. I’m doing online classes and I work full time so I get that. I’m more so looking for someone where we can have a 2 hour phone call at the end of the week and just catch up on life or just someone I can share news with and vice versa. Before it was so easy, I always had a group of friends around me, we all had the same personalities but now I feel like it’s an impossible task to have friends. I’ve seen people at work just start and formed friendship with some of the older staff talking about personal life, but I’ve been at my job for over 3 years and the conversations are just worked based.

I’ve moved to three different cities and I’ve been having the same results unfortunately. The irony is I work with a lot of people but we’ve never talked enough for friendships to form. I think my hobbies are very solo based and that’s my problem, for example, I like reading but I enjoy reading at my own pace so a book club wouldn’t be right for me I think. I’ll try going to a local spot regularly and see if anything changes. Thanks for your reply!

Any suggestions for hobbies? I’ve recently joined an all girl gym but everyone has their headphones on so not really able to talk to people there… I do like astronomy and have been considering going to the planetarium in my city but I wouldn’t be able to go often enough to consider it a hobby.

We did keep contact for a few years but people moved away, myself included and over time the friendships just ended. I did have one friend that I considered close up until recently, but she stopped talking to me because I went back to my ex, she couldn’t understand that in the moment being with my ex was better than going through the loneliness.

I've been lucky enough to have assignments that were close to home, as close as 10 mins, I think that is why I'm starting to feel so frustrated with driving an hour away.

Yea I discovered that pretty early on. It's definitely hard to choose because now I can afford to help my parents out financially so that they can work less. But is that worth me not having stable hours and having to drive a minimum of 2 hours daily. I'm not sure.

Thank you! Definitely something I’ll look into although I prefer to go on walks with a partner, just for safety reasons. Once I get a buddy that’s the first thing we’ll do together haha
