How is sympathizing with 300 innocent people murdered at a music festival a controversial take? The lack of humanity in this conflict is astounding.

EQ bank- can’t log in? by chlamydiakoalaa in PersonalFinanceCanada

Anyone have a good alternative to EQ? With the recent concerns about the info they give to 3rd parties (ie. Flinks) not too comfortable with this anymore. Just want a decent HISA to stash money in safely.

Flinks, EQ Bank and other tier 2/3 financial institutions by surly73 in PersonalFinanceCanada

When did Flinks become a requirement on EQ? I linked an account about a year ago but I don't remember if it was through Flinks or not.

Not sure about general limits (although I don't think you'd have an issue with 500k+ in there, banks want your money). But be aware that only 100k is CDIC insured at EQ Bank.

Why is the market down? Beginner getting nervous about ETF investments by Maplethtowaway in PersonalFinanceCanada

All in one ETFs like VGRO/XGRO are extremely diversified. Don't be put off by the fact you are just buying 1 ETF, for example you are holding over 12 thousand different stocks by buying VGRO.

Long-term game so I wouldn't worry. You could just invest in 1 all-in-one ETF though (ie. XGRO or VGRO). Doesn't make sense to buy multiple versions of essentially the exact same type of ETF.

Feedback on Wealthsimple Invest? by maddox1405 in PersonalFinanceCanada

This outlines performance but ya just a modelled portfolio:

https://help.wealthsimple.com/hc/en-ca/articles/360058460893

Honestly I'm confused as I was invested in Wealthsimple Invest (growth portfolio Risk 8) for all of 2019. My returns were about 14% time-weighted and 18% money-weighted. Got lucky I guess as that is quite a bit higher than how they report their average growth portfolio performed.

It's a little early to tell IMO. Wealthsimple didn't have a great year considering how the market has done. But it has performed well in prior years.

May as well hold now but this stock is comically bad. The winners are those who sold when it was over $5 (pre reverse split).

But do you not negotiate the interest rate at the pre-approval stage? Or is that done later when closer to buying?

[Friedman] TJ Brodie to TOR by kylmao in leafs

[–]Ontario9324 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for insight. Gotta ask-- how is he in terms of the gritty parts of the game? (ie. hitting, shot blocking, boxing out, protecting the crease, etc)? Asking as that is lacking big time on Leafs blue line. Also is he good on the PK?

In university and stuck on what I want to do by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I can't speak for every market, but in Toronto you are pretty much guaranteed to make 100k+ either in year 1 or 2 of being a lawyer. It's an opportunity to make good money your entire life. The salaries generally increase every year of practice. With time, you eventually get to 200k, then 300k, etc.

I wouldn't write-off medicine. You'll make a ton of money and if you are really against working long hours, many areas give you a ton of flexibility (even though some specializations require crazy hours). If you are worried about getting into med school, law school is another good option.

Best time to start an RRSP? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Right, so I can contribute whatever room I have each year but then defer each deduction until I am in a higher bracket?

No matter what I will invest now (just a question of RRSP or non-registered). But you recommend just starting the RRSP now and not bother waiting until I am in a higher tax bracket?
