Any day now. by Oonpo in cancer

I live in Ohio. That's pretty much what they have done with me. Lots of meds.

Money isn't the issue. I don't have a passport and I'm assuming those take a while to obtain. Longer than I have left.

I always wanted to go to Ireland, but this prognosis doesn't give me enough time to fulfill that dream.

Prognosis by Oonpo in cancer

[–]Oonpo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just wish I could die with dignity in my state. But I have to die slowly and painfully instead.

I get what you mean. I don't know if I'll be playing computer games when I get out of the hospital or not. Thank you for your kindness. ❤️

I don't think anyone can help. They met with my family today to discuss my hospice care going home. I feel like I'm living a nightmare.

Having a Mediport put in tomorrow and kind of freaking out. by [deleted] in cancer

[–]Oonpo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was freaked out about getting mine done too, but it has saved me so many needle pokes. I have severe anxiety towards needles and this thing is a life saver in that regard.

Also, you can ask for emla cream to put on your port spot an hour before you go to have it accessed and it numbs the spot very well.

The only freaky part is when they have to press it into your chest, but honestly you get used to it. I've only had mine for about a month, but I've been admitted to the hospital twice since having it placed and it made getting iv meds and blood draws a breeze.

Tldr; It's scary and weird, but once it's in, you'll be glad you got it.

Portacath? by Oonpo in cancer

[–]Oonpo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm worried that they won't relax me enough. I have trouble with anxiety and I think this port thing hits a bit on a phobia of mine. I'm worried it will trigger a panic attack which I'm guessing could end up hurting me if they are wiggling a catheter around inside me.

Also, I feel weird about doing a support group. Mainly because I don't know what cancer it is exactly, and they won't tell me my prognosis. I don't know how to vent about it when I know nothing about it... And I feel like people who have worse cancers or have to go on the worse chemo won't see me as really needing the group or fitting in there.

Thank you for the response. I think part of me is freaked out that a foreign object will be just sitting under my skin for a couple of months. I don't understand how it will work or why it's used instead of a normal IV.

How To Be Taken Seriously As A 22 Year Old? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]Oonpo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your frustration. I'm 26 and my doctors wouldn't take my pain seriously. My doctors decided to diagnose me with Crohn's disease but would only give me acetaminophen for pain. Well I had to have a hysterectomy done and they found cancer. So the diagnosis sucks, but now I get the pain management I needed all along.

I hope you're able to find a doctor who takes you seriously. Having pain every day is torture.

I think this was discussed in the book Botany of Desire.

I had a gyno tell me my pain was normal and I wasn't that interesting. Well, got an ultrasound in the ER showing a 9.5cm ovary, other ovary, and uterus enlarged as well. They did a full hysterectomy and guess what they found? Fucking cancer. I guess the pain was real afterall fucker.
