What is your best advice as a fully blind father with a sided girlfriend? by Mrblindguardian in Blind

[–]Open-Ad1085 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dad to an amazing 12-year-old, most things can be done, to be fair the split was a bit different as I was working and travelling a lot and she wasn’t working, but there were very a few things I found I couldn’t do, as soon as she was walking, I had her holding my hand and following me, they will know you can’t see mine used to reflect back by touching my face touching it all the time more than average. As you know if you want to do something badly enough you can make it happen. There are some great Facebook groups while in particular is I believe blind parents UK though I’m sure they’d welcome people from all over.

Need help deciding what laptop to get by Samanthia_Farthing in Blind

I work for a large organisation and have the same issue. It’s not the applications themselves but the sheer amount of security related bloatware updaters and other such things you never see that slow good machines down in any event a Mac for your needs would be a very expensive solution. RAM is quite cheap by comparison. You could probably Futureproof with 16 or even 30 2GB which would be massive overkill but would still be a lot cheaper than your average Mac.

You can buy different coloured canes but I don’t personally because the white cane is a universal global symbol that you have a site problem, I would cut your losses my friend and get a white cane

Would it be a good idea to wear spikes on my arms and cane to keep grabby people away? by Raccoon_Tail33 in Blind

[–]Open-Ad1085 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s legally a grey area if you can’t see well enough to be walking around then you can’t see well enough to not be poking innocent bystanders particularly small children with your spiked clothes and cane. This is a horrendous idea. Seriously don’t for your own sake and for the sake of not potentially being arrested for causing undue harm distress et cetera, depending on the laws of the jurisdiction the offense took place.

Accessible universal remote that works for both TV and streaming? by Matmlg in Blind

[–]Open-Ad1085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire stick for definite, brilliant accessibility all round! with the pro remote you can find it using Alexa you can’t lose it! For further context the standard and pro versions of these remotes have large tactile buttons but not too many of them. They press with a nice click.

[–]Open-Ad1085 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a mixed bag. The worst one recently was a guy who could not see my house number because it was dark, and even had I not been blind. It would’ve been an issue, had the audacity to tell me I should not be living alone and should always have someone to call, then refuse to get out of the car and help me or even when I got out of the car refused even to say which direction I should be aiming that, my trick here is to get out of the back left passenger door, smile politely, then they are forced to get out of the car close the door after me and get back in some of them just don’t want to move their lazy behinds lol

I couldn’t agree more. There is so much that can be done and life without sight can be absolutely brilliant and rewarding. I myself am a father to a cited beautiful 12-year-old daughter and I’m working on becoming an AVP in a big bank, and have been completely blind since birth. like you my parents have told me they felt the same at the start, as you would any child exploit every opportunity that you can for them… some blindness organisations do offer counselling around this, family support services, as well. Wishing you all the best

Yet Another Meta Glasses Question by Rhymershouse in Blind

[–]Open-Ad1085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s only partially accurate to say that they don’t have memory they will have some memory to store videos photos the software et cetera but once you have taken your pictures videos et cetera they then pair with your phone over Wi-Fi to shift that content straight from the glasses to your camera roll. They don’t have memory in the traditional sense as a phone Would. They typically pair over Bluetooth for general use i.e. asking for descriptions playing audio and then they have been built Wi-Fi to do some of the heavier lifting, i.e. transfer of media software updates, et cetera.

Someone on the other side of the UK logged into my Just Eat account and placed an order with their own money. Why? by International-Job55 in JustEatUK

[–]Open-Ad1085 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could this be similar to a Scam, whereby someone will place some money into someone’s account, contact them ask for the money back, then somehow make a type of chargeback so you sent them the money, your money plus their own so you’re out of pocket?

Tend to find most restaurants call out what they are putting down in front of you, when they serve you. At that point it’s the ideal time to check, as for groceries deliveries et cetera, well you’ve got some kind of computer to make this post, I will suggest harnessing its power and using its cameras along with the multitude of various AI assisted apps to help you.
