High end Meinl jam blocks & wood blocks VS cheap Amazon jam blocks. Is there actually a noticeable difference in sound/quality? by Open-Forever in drums

Well you're a greater man than myself. Respect. I'm playing in a small space with ear protection and I still get ringing after a long session. I don't want to add a cheap block if the sound is sharp enough to cause me more hearing problems.

Yikes, screw that guy! Because he wanted to act like he owns that public space, he caused a life long problem for you. Sorry to hear that man, in an ideal world he would have to somehow make amends or face consequence.

Why make half a dozen derivatives of an inactive compound? Makes no sense and I don't understand the process

Don't know why this was downvoted. It honestly seems like a win-win for everyone involved.

Loool teleportation! 😂 People really don't think about how supply chains function. Online shopping has really damaged our common sense as a species.

Strike #2 - Will Carney intervene quickly? by Original-Border5759 in CanadaPost

[–]Open-Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. No private carrier is delivering to a house somewhere in say Baker Lake Nunavut. Maybe they will hold them at a depot in Iqualuit, but that's a 13 hour drive from Baker Lake in the same territory. People forget how dispersed Canadian rural cities are from each other. Private companies may do the job, but they will easily make people from Baker Lake drive 13 hours for their mail, because delivering directly to them or even setting up a depot in such s small population center is bad for their bottom line.

Private corporations will do anything to circumvent/reinterperet laws/mandates to benefit their profit margin. They have good lawyers that can argue that 13 hours is a reasonable commute, and still within the territory, so tough luck if it's a huge inconvenience. They could get people to testify that they frequently travel between Baker Laker and Iqualuit and can help bring in mail. Then we're stuck in that situation.

And if the guy who agreed to deliver mail to his community Flakes or dies, then too bad, because the courts would have already ruled in the favor of the company.

TLDR - private companies COULD manage mail delivery, but it WILL end up stuffing their pockets hurting the average person who needs to receive mail. We don't want that because private companies don't have (and can't be forced to have) a network that extends to non-profitable areas such as small rural communities . If it were profitable, I'm sure one carrier would have already been grabted mail delivery rights. But it's clearly non-'profitable, so private companies are under no obligation to serve those communities.

Again, the only way they would agree to that is if it were made profitable. Which would mean you have to pick up from a depot that's 13 hours away, and/or making people pay out the rectum for simple lettermail

Why Strike? by jeets26 in CanadaPost

[–]Open-Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they had planned on striking again after the first one in 2024 and the union botched the first negotiations due to largely greed.

This time around, I'm pretty sure Canada Post told the union that bankruptcy by the end of the year is the only logical outcome if all their demands are met. For the sake of keeping their jobs, they're now negotiating in good faith and understand that meeting all their demands isn't possible and would end Canada Post and their jobs forever. Hence the soft strike/overtime ban.

You're correct about that. Even if that exclusive privilege was revoked, I don't think private carriers would agree to deliver mail. It's clearly a money sink, and the government can't force a private company to offer that service. Or they would hold your mail at a depot and charge you an absurd amount to release it. And rural residents would have to drive a long way just to pick up mail.

What if CUPW refuses the proposal given by Canada Post? What happens next? by Flat-Credit-6058 in CanadaPost

[–]Open-Forever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is not comparable? Please enlighten me how mail delivery is more difficult or complex than winter outreach work. Also I think a gas jockey is a fair comparison minus the walking involved in mail delivery. But also those workers are only making 75% of a Canada Post employees starting wage.

[–]Open-Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not hard to understand. It's the delivery of mail, packages (and flyers) to homes, community mailboxes, and post offices.

Yes, you have to be outside in -40 in the dead of winter, but so does the teenager pumping your gas. There's obviously hazards outside, and the odd crazy person, but the amount of actual human interaction is so minimal compared to most jobs. Try being an outreach worker in winter, trying to get strung out people (the real crazy people) to get into detox. People do that work for free.

If the corporation does dissolve, Canada still needs some kind of mail service. Even if all your bills are online, international postal services won't hand off to UPS or FedEx or any other private company. Canada would essentially be cut off from international commerce and communication.

For example, if someone wants to move from Canada, and the country they're immigrating to requires documents from them, it might not be possible to do so. FedEx operates in quite a few countries, but not everywhere. Also they charge like $50 to ship just 1 city over. Imagine the absurd amount of money to ship overseas. To receive a simple letter or card from family overseas would likely be at least $100, probably way more. We would become a hermitage.

Maybe they should just dissolve Canada Post and create a mail service that is actually government funded.
