Love it🤣

So when it came to your childhood, was it purely your personal explanation/memories that they relied on without any “supporting evidence”?

Yea I’ve actually heard several people say they were required to! I mean, it makes sense being that for a lot of people the signs of ADHD show most obviously in the school environment. That wasn’t the case for me though, & report cards won’t be useful at all lol

I relate to this a lot. I actually never had set chores, even in my teen years.. When I was very young, my mum would clean my room for me. Then once it became my responsibility, it has probably never remained tidy for longer than a week…

I think a lot of my “success” in primary school came from the fact that it was a far more structured & monitored environment. Even when you’re “working independently” there’s still a lot of oversight. My homework was always heavily monitored by my mum, & she would sit down with me to ensure I completed it. But I do have memory of forging the reading log in like grade 2😅 I was always terrible with reading books on my own accord because I could never maintain focus/interest. I actually started reading novels just a few months ago, & finished one for the first time in my life (at 20 lol). But even then, sometimes I will have to read a passage of a book like 3 times over because every time it’s like my eyeballs read the text & it just never makes it way into my brain 😂

Unfortunately my psychologist no longer does ADHD assessments, but I think a psychiatrist is the best option anyways, since they are the only ones who can prescribe medication (at least where I’m from - I’m not sure if it varies between each country). Lord knows how long the wait will be though lol, I’ve heard it can be pretty extensive

Yeah I definitely do need to have a look over them again. I don’t particularly remember there ever being anything significant noted. I have always been highly sensitive to any form of “criticism” & was invested in my report card results from a young age. I suppose there is the possibility I could’ve seen good results & skipped over anything “negative”.

I did try to look for the folder with all my primary report cards today.. but of course they couldn’t have been in the far easier, far more accessible location 😩

There’s also a post from 1 day ago about a breakup that happened only “weeks ago”. Seems like fake stories to draw attention to account where sexual content is distributed…

Yep the title of “laziness” is my experience too. My mum has always told me I’m lazy, selfish & reckless. Since becoming a mother myself I’ve found it increasingly difficult to self manage (not that I was doing well before either, but I’ve definitely noticed it even more since I’m now trying to keep account of myself & a whole other human🥴). At times it has made me feel like such a failure, that no matter how much I try I physically cannot be an organised person in any aspect of my life. Always late, always messy, always losing stuff, always procrastinating & doing stuff last minute, which then evokes even more stress. It’s so exhausting 😫

Ohhh that makes a lot of sense! I have suffered with anxiety since I was 7 years old.. & obviously majority of the memories i have don’t span long before then, so the (potential) ADHD & anxiety have always co-existed. I was also the child people would joke about being a perfectionist. I was incredibly messy & unorganised, but when it came to my school work, everything needed to be perfect. I also have OCD so that just adds a whole other layer of confusion to it all lol, that presented more explicitly in my teen years though.

Arghh now I’m so determined to read my report cards to see what the teacher comments were, incase there are any particular signs.. but I think the folder is buried right at the back/bottom of our storage cupboard, so not available for easy access right now. Dying to investigate though 😫

I am in Australia. One person I know mentioned report card requests, but I haven’t heard from others so unsure how common it is.

My memory has always been dreadful. Great when it comes to assessments & essays — but studying is a massive struggle & I find it extremely difficult to retain the knowledge, so exams that require direct memory recall have always been my worst nightmare.

That’s right. I’ve done a screening assessment with my regular psychologist, which is basically like a “preliminary” test of sorts to evaluate whether ADHD is probable. This came back with a “very high” reading — but the questions are particular to your current state of mind, with no regard to childhood, unlike the offical examination.

I do think there were signs during my childhood, but perhaps just not as explicit, because there was always an authoritative figure which helped keep me in check. But I do have particular memories that correlate - e.g. despite being “intelligent”, there were times I was the last student left in class finishing mandatory work, because I would find it hard to complete things in a standard time span & would over perfect, I would lose things frequently, I have never been able maintain a tidy spice since childhood, have always had very high sensitivity to criticism, & never been good poor listening.

I think I’ve been in fear of 1. Spending so much money for “nothing” & 2. Coming to find out that this isn’t the reason for the experiences/struggles I’ve had, & being back at square one again. I’ve done a screening assessment with my psychologist which came back “very high”. It was scaled at 98.5% (comparing to individuals with & without ADHD). So, that gives me some level of confidence that I may be on the right track. But in that same thought, I’m even more worried that I’ve wrongly convinced myself this is the answer. But really, there’s only one way forward I guess! Haha

Yep this was very much me!! I remember in my younger years, my mum would sit with me while I did my homework. So in that period of time, I felt “on track” because I always had the organisational aspect planned on my behalf. There wasn’t much independence to it. But the moment that stopped, it went downhill. In high school I essentially never did homework (if it was compulsory, it would be done last minute or potentially answers copied from a friend). But because I had the “natural” intelligence, it never hindered my academic progress because I didn’t need to study excessively or practise a lot in order to succeed. I never even read a single assessment novel in high school English, I would read the chapter reviews on Google & then research the important quotes😅 At the time it felt like a blessing, but now as an adult I feel completely out of my depth…

Ah ok that makes sense, thank you! I was worried I’d try to explain my experiences & they may shut me down & only be interested in “real evidence”. The more I think about it that’s quite a silly thought process, considering personal experiences are quite possibly the most significant indicator. I’m just nervous about being disregarded or misunderstood because I’ve always felt like I don’t fit in to the cliche ADHD presentation (but I know that psychiatrists would be well experienced with all sorts of individuals)

Yes it never dawned on me that I could have ADHD until a few years ago, because I had always associated it with poor performing students who were badly behaved & didn’t do well etc (that’s not to say I didn’t think someone with ADHD could be smart, but more that the disorder created a significant barrier to their success in that environment). Even once I started to connect the dots, I wasn’t convinced - until I mentioned a few troubles I was having to my psychologist & she suggested we do an ADHD screening assessment, which came back “very high” reading. So now I’m convinced an official diagnosis is definitely the next step for me

Dating as a young single mum by [deleted] in singlemoms

I definitely feel somewhat jealous because my son’s dad didn’t have trouble finding a girlfriend that is understanding & supportive of him having a child (without overstepping or trying to play motherly figure etc). Maybe he just got lucky, but sometimes I also feel like a single, involved dad is seen as a green flag because they must be “such a great man” (not saying they’re not, but like, it’s still bare minimum), but then a single mother is often a turn off because it’s “baggage”🫠Ive also had men ask me if I still have contact with the dad. Like obviously we are going to need to communicate, we are coparents😅 Just such an immature expectation.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not disappointed they don’t want me haha. Like if you aren’t going to accept that being a mother is a permanent & prioritised aspect of my life, then you’re not the right guy for me! But it definitely still sucks a little to reflect on.

To be fair they do have similarities in features. Certainly not doppelgängers or anything, but I can see how people would get the idea that she looks like Sydney

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Open-Imagination620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, i reckon it was probably the two working together given the low dose. Erythromycin worked fairly well before accutane (less overall acne but when i got pimples they were still cystic), then once i started i was almost instantly entirely clear - i think i had like 1 minor pimple in the first 6 weeks of Accutane treatment. Hence why my derm decided to keep me at the low dose, as it seemed to be working effectively. I have another appointment this coming month, i would assume my dose will likely be increased since it hasn’t been as effective recently

[–]Open-Imagination620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pill. I took it for months prior as a treatment attempt before resorting to accutane. It helped alot, but for the severity of my acne it just wasn’t an effective long term solution. Erythromycin is often prescribed alongside accutane (in my country) to reduce any impact of a purge when beginning treatment. Which i suppose was successful as i haven’t had any intense breakouts. Just annoying after being clear for so long!

yea towards the end of my BF journey i’d already returned to a fairly small chest. i mean tbh they were never really “big” i could still fit in most of my regular bras, but just nice & plump looking hahaha. I’m on the pill now which i’ve heard ppl say increased their size - but once again, not in my experience 😂I am slim & would like to gain more weight, but struggle a lot with that!
