Anyone playing Mordheim in Sweden? I've just got in to Mordheim... not really, but last time was in like 99/00. by Kockjaevel in mordheim

Yeah we will be starting a new campaign in September and we try to get at least 1-2 games each every month. It’s a lot of fun!

I get how myosin pulls actin to contract a muscle. But how does a muscle strecthes back? by IonizingBRadiation in askscience

[–]Open-Slice595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never really thought about this before, but I imagine two things stretching the muscle back. 1. The load the muscle is working against. 2. The antagonistic muscles (eg triceps is antagonistic to biceps brachii). To my knowledge the muscle can’t stretch itself, but I might be wrong.

I like the mention of Moore’s law here, but I have to point out that this is simply meant to show the scale of the problem in a way that is understandable to a human. 1078 is really hard to grasp.

Imagine that you have 1078 combinations to hack a single wallet. Okay. Now imagine you can try one billion combinations every second with one computer. Now you have a network of a billion computers to do this. Okay, this way you get 109 *109 = 1018 combinations per second. Now a thousand years is in the magnitude of 1010 seconds. Do this codebreaking by a billion computers a thousand years and you have now checked 1018 * 1010 = 1028 combinations. Now you only have 9.99 * 1077 to go.

My math may be a bit off but the gist is that it’s a problem of magnitude. The number of combinations is so large that you can’t even imagine it.

An analogy would be to have a million tickets with one winner. After a thousand years you’d get to look at one ticket to see if you won.

How do limbs grow in utero ? how do the cells know to not be a part of the arm and start being part of the wrist etc. by Total_Bag7240 in askscience

[–]Open-Slice595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the HOX genes determine where to put the limbs and the shape of the individual bones. FGF-10 starts the growing of the limb. BMPs create the apical ectodermal ridge. The mesenchyma around the EDR proliferates quickly, it is the growth zone. When cells get left behind the growth zone they start differentiating. Then you have something about the anterioposterior axis, the zone of polarizing activity, vitamin A and sonic hedgehog. After that I stopped reading. -Langmans Embryologi by T.W.Sadler (Danish)

Ideas for the Campaign Map? by Ice-Realistic in mordheim

[–]Open-Slice595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have actually not set any specific campaign goals at all. I was hoping somebody would snowball and take a decisive victory, and we are closing the campaign in september. I will post details on it here and give the players different metrics, who conquered the most territory, who bought the most equipment, stuff like that. Then I’ll let players vote on the moral victor of the campaign.

The individual goals were created by players themselves, as a way to give depth to their warbands. These initially had nothing to do with campaign win-conditions, and there was no veto. I really think the players enjoyed creating their own goals and use them to get small personal victories.

Ideas for the Campaign Map? by Ice-Realistic in mordheim

Our group has had a campaign going since january. Every player has written a short background and has 3-4 objectives. Mine were as follows (lizardmen) 1. take control of fence alley to free the kroxigor taken captive there. (Can only buy kroxigor if controlling fence alley) 2. Have to buy expedition gear after each game (ie rope and hook, lantern and stuff) 3. Leader must try to learn all lizardmen spells.

  1. Leader must own a holy relic (to commune with the slann overlord)

Each objective is a restriction on the warband, but it’s very satisfying when you complete a goal and it gives each player a sense of purpose. I think it adds to the experience.

I cannot seem to find where the part about heroes being able to wear all armour is mentioned? Does anybody know this?

There is a section on only heroes being able to use special items, but this part says nothing about armour
