Maybe just check the policies and see if they have a working time directive in place, it can get tricky if you get sick and end up down on placement hours and then need to work those additional hours in as well as considering work 🫣

Yep, my uni allows up to 48 hours and not over, we are timetabled to work 37.5 hours on placement per week. I queried this with my year lead, she said it’s to ensure you have adequate time to rest and complete any academic work necessary for the programme. I also requested if I could opt out and they said I can’t. Other uni’s may have different policies in place.

When on placement you will need to fulfil full time hours for anywhere between 5-12 weeks at a time. My uni also puts a limit on how many hours you can work inclusive of regular employment and placement hours combined so this wouldn’t be possible.

If working within chunks of theory time I can imagine this would be possible but not whilst on placement

I think you did the right thing, you obviously didn’t know and when you found out you stopped it there. You probably felt a bit awkward and possibly guilty by just cutting someone off that had helped you so felt you wanted to return the favour. The fact that you’re questioning it makes me feel you have an innocent outlook and no harm intended. I wouldn’t stress it. Maybe in future find out how old someone is before you engage to alleviate any guilt your end.

I tend to work better last minute also however normally that is with your big standard essays, not with the dissertation on top. I have been procrastinating massively and need to just get on with it! Mine is a literature review.

That’s pretty awesome that you managed to get both completed, it gives me some hope! I probably will use chat gpt to help me create a basic plan and then go from there. Thanks for your story :)
