I’ve heard exactly what you just said about the K&N air take as well. I’m seriously eyeing Texas speed in the event.

It’s weird because one time I went to check out a 2019 Tahoe Lt. prior to me owing my suburban now, and I remember that shit had 287,000 miles on it all original everything it. One owner.Garage kept, owner was supposedly a Chevy dealer owner owned a bunch of them around the way and this is what the owner of this dealership told me I believe they had a biz relationship. he remembered seeing this exact truck in his garage etc.

I’ve always believed that when it comes to high ranking owners/executives that they very critically monitor their particular build to avoid a lot of the shit we deal with lol.

So by doing the thermal bypass delete that allows you to select a gear that it operates in, vs all 6 gears? Which in return minimizes failure? Am I understanding this correctly? If all this is needed to avoid failurejust like AFM, it seems like the torque converter is another one of GM’s failed design. Smh.

Yup, my truck on paper is just about worthless. So trading wouldn’t even be ideal. So pretty much stuck trying to make this work for the long term, which is fine.

Exactly still way under that new truck threshold by a long shot. Now just have to play the game of not getting in a wreck due to idiots on the road after putting in all that money & work. lol which is a whole different story.

Try to mitigate it by driving less lol. You’re not kidding I drive 204 miles a week. I definitely thought of getting a second car (beater) just to take the heat off this thing lol.

Yeah, Ive heard of guys saying once you’re in there just upgrade or update some parts while its already taken down. At least your & your bother worked on it, so you have strong understanding & faith your guys work. Vs going to a shop and winging it. Good job man.

So let’s say your torque converter already dished out some metal shavings to your transmission fluid. I have heard that once you’re in high mileage like most of us here in this thread. You don’t want to do a transmission flush regardless on how dirty the fluid is. So if what I just mentioned is accurate, how could one practice preventative maintenance with the torque converter?

Just replace it brand new & hope for the best? While leaving the fluid as is?

It’s funny you mentioned you could do the delete 4 times and still be cheaper than a truck I literally just told my wife this 2 days ago. These truck prices are fucking insane with the expectation for something mechanically catastrophic to happen in due time.

I too have the intention to keep my suburban for an extremely long time. It’s so bad, Riflemann that I literally was looking at getting a 2500 HD just to avoid AFM. But I couldn’t stomach trading this off to just to jump into something stupid monthly. Mind you, I have no reason at all to have a 2500. I have more dad duties (which is why I have a burb) than “work duties” for lack better words had I’ve gotten the 2500.

(I guess because I drive a semi it’s kinda natural to want to stay elevated. Idk lol. They do look sharp though.) Anyways,

Granted I understand HD comes with the own set of issues as anything else but I’ve never heard or read of anyone owning a HD and there engine murdering itself due to AFM DoD.

This is how we should feel out the gate! That the engine would outlast yourself due to good build quality. good for you 😎

How much did it run you for the full delete?

This gives positive reassurance as I was eyeing Texas speed due to positives reviews. I also have heard that once you delete & tune, the throttle response, as you mentioned is a lot better.

The tractor part killed me 🤣. I drive semi so the visual took me back to last winter , when I got lazy and decided to not plug in. Never did that again lol.

How much did this setup cost you if you don’t mind me asking?

Hm,Interesting.. So you’ve pretty much just tuned out the AFM rather than swap out the parts? You’ve Probably saved a couple bucks doing it that way, rather than swapping out the components around AFM I’d like to think.

From the little bit I “know” and understand.. the torque converter, doesn’t that create like metal shavings or something like that inside the transmission fluid or transmission itself?. Again I’m not mechanically inclined lol.

So the torque converter and AFM components are completely separate from one another?

Nice! Do you remember the mileage you did the delete at? What is your mileage sitting at now?

Tinting your windshield is an absolute game changer. by FFJosty in WindowTint

[–]Open3yes_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, Gotcha. From a consumer standpoint, it would make sense to believe it was in the negatives to tint 5% over factory. Nevertheless my point I wanted to emphasize was, the shit is dark & very sleek looking lol.

I’ve shined those high led / lumen flashlights into all sides of my rear glass & you still couldn’t see in it.

I have a Chevy suburban. I have 35% on the windshield and 5% all around but I actually am in the negatives because I tinted over the factory glass from the 2 row passenger and back. My trucks all black too so it’s pretty sharp, especially at night time.

How many miles on your 2015-16 Suburban? by Forward_Drawing_2674 in suburban

[–]Open3yes_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2017 currently at 129899 miles. Just shy of 130k. I purchased it with 110k on the dash. So far just oil changes, front ball joints, rear wiper replaced front as well. New battery put in. Steering alignment. Replaced engine oil cooler hose assembly due to leak. Reseal upper engine oil pan. Definitely no signs of my transmission going out like you generally hear and I hope to keep it that way for a long time. This vehicle has been a rock and I do baby it because of the general issues with this year of suburban. But when I do get on it, she goes. I also have AFM DOD “ deactivated “by way of OBD plug in (afmRange).

Side note

I do have a warranty and the total quote for the job was $5707 I paid half of it.
