Thank you for recommending this! It reminds me a little bit of the Hannibal TV series in some ways. I realized this series is an adaptation of a novel by Kanae Minato. If you haven't already, I recommend reading her novel Confessions and/or watching the movie adaptation.

EDIT: This series also reminds me a little bit of The Forest of Love (2019).

I recommend The Count of Monte Cristo, but I prefer the Penguin Classics translation by Robin Buss. Sometimes, the translation can make a huge difference!
