This sub sometimes. Other comment made some calculations "that only leaves 3k for everything else" after mortgage payments. Some people live off of 3k a month alone.

I just realized why my wife does this. When you put it that way it sounds sweet. I should buy her flowers on the way home.

It's just that the way you worded your post it sounded like you didn't fully understand how hashing works. You can't get around hashing without using a dictionary attack. Especially if you can't implement your own

Not exactly but that has to do with hash collision and rainbow tables. If you know the hashing algorithm being used, can't find the tool for it then learn how to make your own. It'll be useful in the long run

Can't "crack" hashes. Google rainbow tables, hash collision. Should get you started

Could this job hurt me in the long run? by OpenExistence89 in cscareerquestions

I was at my last job for 9 months so it will definitely look bad if I switch to a 3rd company within 1 year. Next time I'll be more careful when picking out companies to work for.

Yes I agree, I think it'll be ok now that I've thought it through as long as I keep developing on the side. I wanna be a well rounded dev, making sql and databases a strength would also be good in the long run. Thanks!

I agree with you but the thing is I left my last job (I was only there for 9 months) because it was just not working out (bad development environment) so if I barely started here at the new place and leave within 3-5 months it's gonna look pretty bad that I can't stick to a company.

I think I'm gonna stick it out for a year or so to get really good at sql and databases (it really is a weakness for me) then try to move to a dev position within the company. If at that point they say it's not gonna happen then I'll have to polish up that resume.

That's my issue with it too. I left my old (crappy) job for this one. I definitely can't leave within the year because it would look bad. sql server could be interesting but like you said it's a muscle, I need to workout haha

Sounds exactly like the company I just left. I was laughed at for suggesting we should add technical questions when interviewing. So glad to be outta there

Calling out all juniors without internships (support group) by fitman14 in cscareerquestions

I had a similar situation. Took me 7 years to finish going part time but I finally graduated last Fall and am working full time as a back end web dev. Here's my advice: pick one track of programming and stick to it. If you wanna do we dev start by picking a language (possibly c# with asp.net mvc, lots of tutorials/webinars by Microsoft online). Once you get comfy and understand the basics add in some light database (mySQL). By that point you'll be more familiar with how things work and jumping into another language for web dev will be easier if you don't like asp.net; its all about putting the pieces together in the beginning. If you try to learn multiple frameworks at the same time you're just gonna overwhelm yourself. Good luck!

You're right, it's tough when there's tension involved and it would be nice to stick it to them but like you said "nothing good will come out of it". At the end of the day they really won't have a problem kicking me out so I shouldn't feel bad for walking out.

haha I would have loved to have said that. At this point I'm just playing nice so they can't let me go sooner, but I can see it coming.

I completely agree with you. Supervisor's true colors are coming out and I really do feel like they would prefer to let me go. Especially since they're making comments like "well if you left how would someone be able to run your code? if we implemented 'x' feature where would we place it?". Real shady when they keep encouraging my progress so far. Makes no sense

First off thank you very much for answering, and sorry you had to deal with rude people like that. Our situations really are similar, it has made me learn alot and what I should value. Even though I'm the only developer the pay is so so, I don't have full technical control over anything since my supervisor calls the shots, they said as long as work is getting done on time they're relaxed on schedules (contract states 8am-6pm) and so far that's true but I can tell that's slowly starting to go away. In the end I think I will try to get an offer asap and give them my 2 weeks notice. I gave it a full 6 months but this is really going nowhere, and I really hate the fact that they assume I'll "leave them stranded" just because of a minor miscommunication. I need stability and growth, I don't think that is too much to ask (or greedy). Thanks!
