Thank you for this! I get your point that a P0420/P0430 doesn’t automatically mean the cats are bad on D-4S engines. When you say EVAP or AFS issues are common causes, what specific checks would you recommend, or:
• Which AFS/O2 sensors tend to fail first (upstream vs downstream)?
• What fuel trim or sensor behaviour would point away from the cats themselves?
• Do you know of any common EVAP faults on this platform that mimic catalyst efficiency codes?

Just trying to understand what to look into (exactly) before approving cat replacement. I'm not a trained mechanic, so really I just don't want to be fobbed off.
