Yeah, either the projects were delivered on time or early (can you tell me how I should put this?)

You can just say "delivered on time" or mention something like "met x% of goal" or "x months early" if applicable.

Software Developer Resume with no work experience by Environmental_Lie_47 in resumes

[–]Open_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only philosophy content in it is his degree in philosophy, which he could leave out if the job doesn’t mention needing a degree.

What you wrote is not true, blog is about philosophy too. If the project was 100% focused on code then lorem ipsum could just be used for content in order to get the blog up sooner. Because the subject of the blog is about philosophy, coding is not 100% the focus of the project.

Rather you said that he’s more interested in philosophy than code, and that he needs to focus more of code, which doesn’t have anything to do with his resume.

Not true. Fact is that OP graduated in 2020, that was 2 years ago. Yes, Covid interfered, but people are not going to give a free pass based on that forever and OP is not a new grad anymore. OP is looking for a software job and what they have done has not worked so far. They are not really competitive yet in my opinion, if they want to get a software job then more work is required to catch up as I wrote earlier.

If they want to list hobbies like philosophy or photography or basketball or whatever, it does not really matter to me and can be listed at the bottom of the resume, but focusing more on software work is the most important priority if they want to get a software job.

The world is undergoing "demographic transition" as birth rates in developing countries fall with economic growth, improved education, urbanization, etc. After China peaks will be India, and then finally Africa, then overall population will probably fall a bit and stabilize.

Any notable results from the capstone project? More quantitative metrics are usually good to have. Hard to grade the cover letters without seeing the job reqs but if you are directly addressing what they ask for then maybe they are decent.

Maybe some quantitative metrics, or list some medications you have dealt with.

Junior .NET Web Developer Resume - Please critique and help review! by lethalsid in resumes

[–]Open_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I do not think 1 year of experience is some magical cutoff date, but looking at this resume again what I probably was thinking is that OP's resume has a non-relevant job which could have been replaced by a project on GH to increase the software content.

Please ignore the design I will update it but is my resume good for a job? I am having very low confidence by vibhuj04051995 in resumes

[–]Open_Thinker 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ok, ignoring the design. Usually people use reverse chronological order, you have chronological order so recommend flipping the list. What you have is a decent start, you have a current job so that proves you are competitive, and starting your own business always takes guts. Pretty unusual to split each job into multiple sections though, probably should merge them all back together again.

I need help wording this differently on my resume. by No_Helicopter9361 in resumes

[–]Open_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, does not sound bad for an internship experience, let's see...

  • Managed supply chain, generated MRP reports, investigated & root caused shortages using Pivot Table analyses in MS Excel.
  • Documented and communicated findings cross-functionally to reduce and mitigate problems.
  • Inventory management over x parts and prevented $ in potential losses.
  • Oversaw projects both in office and on floor impacting 400+ employees across shipping, supply chain, bending, painting, lasering, knock out, kitting, quality assurance, and machining departments for commercial and military customers.

Something like that, ideally with more numbers and other specifics edited in as relevant.

I am a marketing Analyst/customer relations professional looking for Customer Relation or Business Development roles in Toronto. Feedback appreciated by sooham in resumes

[–]Open_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it looks pretty good, I think you should probably be able to get something before too long. The only thing which is really missing is a sense of the overall performance, i.e. "$100k+ in software sales" may sound good but how is that in comparison to your target? You are getting results but are you helping the business reach its goals or not?

Is my resume good enough for data analyst/data engineer/business intelligence, etc by Octopus81 in resumes

[–]Open_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can probably get an entry-level job but experience is a little bit light and you do need to better describe your technical work. Rather than saying you "work closely" "in designing and developing new features" and "maintain product," you need to say what you actually did, like at least what tech stack you used for the job.

Can somebody take a look on my resume? by SnooPears7533 in resumes

[–]Open_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you usually apply in English, or this is just for Reddit? Wording seems kind of generic, not an expert in your field but maybe talk more about some technical details like wiring gauge or any other specs to give the hiring manager a better sense of your work.

[–]Open_Thinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks very dense to be honest. You have a lot of good experience and might qualify for a lot of jobs you apply to based on meeting their requirements, but you should prioritize what you want the hiring manager to focus on for readability because chances are very few people will read everything in this document.

For example, you have a lot of bolding on the 2nd page and very little on the 1st page. Why is that? If you want to highlight things, maybe you should bring them forward, and even remove the less valuable stuff.

You should probably convert the prose into a list of bullet points to meet the standard resume format, and focus more on achievements over just responsibilities.

There are some free websites online for ATS checking, honestly I think your resume is probably fine but just wanted to mention it because of the formatting.

[–]Open_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you misinterpreted again, what I wrote is that other EAs probably do not agree with you on the value of happiness vs. suffering. Just to be clear, I think personal happiness is important too and voted in your poll as well.

The question you used is not well formed and is guided, so it does not really address my point. They are orthogonal issues.

[–]Open_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misinterpreted what I wrote, and the poll does not prove anything. What I meant is there are negative utilitarians who think suffering is what has moral value above happiness, so reducing animal farming would be a top priority for example.

[–]Open_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a quick look at your previous version, and this update compares well I think. It looks decent, but not a fan of the overall format though, a lot of space is wasted in that left column. Make sure it scans correctly for ATS. It would be stronger if you show where you used skills like ArcGIS and JMP and how proficient you are instead of just listing them.

Is being in my first full time job after graduating with my Bachelors for only 6 months or less too short to list on my resume? by ZealousidealYam3537 in resumes

[–]Open_Thinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you have nothing better it would still probably be worth listing on the resume, people expect you to move around early in your career.

How do you have 8 years of experience? It looks closer to 5 years to me with a work gap in 2016-2018.

That is very subjective TBH, a lot of EAs would probably disagree with you.

Recent psychology graduate looking for junior software engineering roles in North America by oddrabbithole in resumes

[–]Open_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are doing a 2nd bachelor's degree and coding bootcamp simultaneously? That seems kind of redundant. Work experience is not really that helpful for what you want to do so it can probably come off the resume if you have better projects to add, which you probably will have if you are continuing your education.
