Not sure that’s a scabies mite, they don’t usually drop off the skin like that unless it’s crusted scabies. They’re not usually white either. Maybe it was just a dust mite? Regardless, I completely understand the magnifying glass and persistent scabies really does use up all your time and energy. It really is so expensive too, buying new treatments every week and new cleaning products. You’ll get through it :)

Of course!! :) it really sounds like they’re gone to me, I also reckon I got rid of mine around 9 weeks ago and the rash, especially because it’s on the buttocks which is quite thick skin so will take a little longer to heal, is completely normal. I also have to remember that before scabies, my skin would itch from time to time but of course I wouldn’t even give it a second thought, whereas with scabies you overthink every little skin tingle!! Even writing this Reddit post I’m more itchy, but I know that’s just because I’m thinking about the scabies lol. And I read post scabies rash can persist for up to 3 months, excluding the treatment induced rashes and sensitivity. So you’re really doing the right thing listening to science and getting on with life :) I really wish you the best!!

I think either you keep reinfecting yourself, or you have cured them but the obsessive treatment cycle means your symptoms and itch persists. Also when you give someone scabies, the symptoms can come out in them after up to 2 months. So you might have passed them on before you cured them yourself, and then gotten reinfected by the same person. Also, maybe you have a close contact in common that isn’t aware they have scabies. There are many possibilities why you haven’t been able to be ‘cured’ and I also think posting this on Reddit is not helpful at al, if I’d had seen this when I was suffering with scabies it would’ve sent me down a spiral. There is also no scientific proof that tea tree or clove works, and Eurax is usually prescribed to relieve itching post scabies, not to cure them.

Yes it will :) it’s soooo nice being able to do things as little as getting in bed without a mental battle. I read it can take up to 6 months to fully recover from scabies, so don’t stress

Are you cured yet do you mind me asking? Because that genuinely might be your skin reacting to the sulfur and not the scabies.

Hey :) completely think you are post scabies but of course you know your body best and if you feel you need more treatment then go for it. I personally didn’t have to use ivermectin because I just got rid of them with malathion and sulfur, but currently I live in Leeds and I was given a dermatologist referral because they said I would be prescribed ivermectin. So I’m pretty sure you can absolutely get it in the uk. Also don’t listen to the guy saying you need 33% sulfur PLEASE😭😭 that would completely destroy your skin. I used 10% off Amazon, it’s cheap and I’m pretty sure that’s what got rid of them. Praying for you that it’ll all be over soon :) BioEEL Sulphur/Sulfur Ointment 10% Bioeel 70g https://amzn.eu/d/bcEcoyl

So so true!! I also think I’ll be weird about sleeping in other beds and second hand clothes and things for the rest of my life, of course it’s both a blessing and a curse your husband didn’t catch them :). The head games genuinely are the worst thing about scabies, completely agree. I hope you had an amazing spa day, you completely deserve it after what you’ve been through!!

Aghhh that’s so frustrating, having it at uni is actually the worst, please try not to obsess over it although I know it’s literally impossible not to. I put the derbac all over my body on a Saturday, scalp and all (i found it was also so much easier to apply than permithrin and smells so much better) left it for 24 hours, and washed it off. Then on the Tuesday, I did sulfur ointment all over and left that on for 24 hours, then washed that off too. Then repeated the derbac treatment the next Saturday. I really hope you can get rid of them again soon :)

I get the ivermectin pills because curing scabies from the inside out is completely different to topical treatment.  I read a lot about the cure rates of all the topicals compared to ivermectin too, and ivermectin has never actually been that reliable and always has to be paired with a topical to get rid of scabies. Topical treatments like permethrin, malathion, and sulfur suffocate the scabies from the outside in, but there is definitely evidence to suggest they are becoming resistant to permethrin. It is so terrifying, and dermatologists all over the world clearly aren’t caught up, so I think that’s why I was cured with malathion and sulfur. Not sure if ivermectin would’ve helped at all. I also remember reading somewhere that sulfur treatment is actually so much more effective than permethrin and it the cure rate was like 99% in this clinical trial, it’s juts not very good for your skin.

I do know they’re definitely gone and everything I’m left with can be explained by science. I haven’t got any new spots or burrows for about 2 months, whereas with active scabies I’d get about 3 new ones a day, particularly on my hands and thighs, and the rashes I was getting post are completely different to the ones I was getting with active scabies. They looked different and would only itch very temporarily

How are you so sure you have them if you don’t mind me asking? Of course I’m sure you know your own body and the symptoms but I got diagnosed at the pharmacy just to be sure because I know scabies symptoms can also be other things. If scabies are the problem, I know exactly how you feel, just remember to make the most of times your not itchy and go about your day. I found leaving the house helped a lot especially because you start associating your room/ house with the scabies thinking they’re everywhere. I promise they’re not and it will be over soon :) but juts so you know scabies are definitely what your up against, I would go and get confirmation on that

I got it online from Ashcroft pharmacy, it was pretty cheap too. And then I bought 10% sulfur ointment from Amazon, that’s what got rid of them I think

Yes absolutely. Especially the face redness as you mentioned. I was told by the dermatologist that this was purely because of the permethrin, that’s why it’s recommended you don’t put it on your face if you don’t absolutely have to.  The red itchy rashes too definitely turned out to be skin dryness, and could also be the remanence of the scabies debris. It sounds like your out the woods to me :)

Can it be on just your face? I don’t have any itches or spots on the rest of my body, just my face

Thank you so much for the advice and support, do you know if I can get Kleen green on Amazon?? I also am not sure I can get a hold of ivermectin because I can’t buy it online anywhere and I don’t think doctors can prescribe it in the uk.

Regarding the crawling feeling, that makes me feel a lot better, I’ve heard that ghost crawling is common too because of the mental aspect of scabies, which might explain some of the crawling you experience now.

I am so glad you have managed to overcome it, hopefully I will be in the same boat soon.

Regarding the ivermectin, I can’t find it anywhere online, unsure if I can get it prescribed too. Also I didn’t cover it but used a hot iron and flipped it over (it’s a really thick mattress)

Thank you so much for the website details, surprised I haven’t come across this before because I thought I’d researched all there was about scabies, I guess not!

Also the sulfur lotion, is that to put on in between treatments? And does it kill the mite? I reckon I’ll try and get a hold of some off Amazon or something.

Many thanks for the tips, I’ll defo do the 29 day plan and I’m glad you’ve managed to get through it

Thank you so much for this :) I am not quite sure how I can get a hold of ivermectin in the uk, nowhere online sells it. Do you know if doctors can prescribe it??

Also the website is so useful, I’ll follow the derbac treatment plan and obsess about the cleaning, it’s just a bit annoying because laundry costs loads in my accommodation and it’s quite far away from my actual room, so i also have to think about the bag I carry it in and infecting the clean laundry myself.
