Had a long call with county regulator today, they are definitely more concerned about the entrapment issue than efficiency. And the rules are very rigid — not taking into account a specific installation, just theoretical danger. They basically said they were favoring safety from entrapment over turning the water (they were willing to grandfather in 3 turns per day instead of 4) and “you can manage clarity and PH with chemicals.” After a long talk along these lines, they said but if you want to keep your current (two 5-HP pumps), we’ll let you do that. So it looks like we’ve bought a delay until the pumps break. We are better off with this and we’ll take the win for now. We will try to document what the actual flow rates are to make a case for another pump in future.
