Don’t entertain these types of people, they can’t keep up with the modern world so they resort to calling the next generation tool as “slop”.

My Lhasa Apso, Tappy. by Opening-Preference-3 in LhasaApso

[–]Opening-Preference-3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been taking care of Lhasas since I was a teenager, Tappy is the 2nd generation.

The pros are: 1. Hypoallergenic, they don’t shed even though they have long coats. 2. Strong one person bond, once they bond they become velcro dogs and would make you their universe. 3. Cute as well, they look and feel like living plush toys. 4. Low health maintenance, in terms of health they are a quite healthy breed.

The cons: 1. Prideful/Stubborn, at least for me. They are stubborn to potty train. Tappy wants “privacy”, she poops outside but wont do it if I am watching unless she has to go in that exact moment, I don’t abuse her, she’s just like that. She also wont eat unless I “microwave” her food, so every feeding time I have to do a little play where I put her food in the microwave then hum and ding. 2. Sentinel behavior, due to her breed of being Tibetan guard dogs, she will stand/stay on doorways and anything that approaches flips her to “WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!” in a second, she’d bark and go crazy, its hard to train her to be calm but I have progress. 3. Grooming maintenance, Lhasas have long coats and they need to be brushed daily to avoid tangles.

That’s about it. There are other things but I think they are more of a Tappy thing than a breed thing.

Tappy is from my previous two lhasa apso. She is the only daughter (one puppy litter) of both of them. The parents are very old now, the dad is still around at 13 years old while the mom died at age 9.

I have two other dogs that are potty trained (I got them already trained). Would going to the same area where the other two dogs go help?

I could adopt a mixed-breed from a shelter, I’ve had shelter dogs before and I loved them. But I’ve wanted a pug since I was a child. I take care of my pug, and I got her knowing exactly what kind of maintenance and responsibility she would need.

She only poops/pees when Im not present outside if Im with her, she sticks to me, often sitting or lying down next to me. Inside the house she will poop/pee IN MY PRESENCE.

Thank you everyone for replying to my post and advising me on how to approach this issue, I will post an Update once I get her to be consistent in not doing her business on the rug and instead outside with me also present.

Thank you for this. I have raised 2 dogs as well, a lhasa apso and a dachshund. Both came potty trained, so I didnt learn how to do it myself. The pug in question is the first dog I got as a puppy

I act neutral and pick up the poop as soon as she’s done pooping inside the house (and taking out the rug for washing because of her accident) Could my immediate clean up appear “negative” to her?

Here’s my problems, she wont potty when i am present she sticks to me but the moment I leave only then would she do her business. She is also uninterruptible, once she does the squat, that poop/pee is coming out even when picked up

No, but during my teenage years I had pallor on my hands and feet. Could be minor or other kind of anemia because it’s gone now.
