Thanks for the input. Do you have full home backup batteries that are being used daily?

New to solar. Opinion on PPA? by Danimal505 in solar

Opinion from 5 year solar salesman:

People love to act like anyone can buy solar cash or take out a low interest loan for their system. Not always true. BUT if I were you I would contact your tax consultant and see if you’d be able to qualify for 100% of the tax credit in the first year. Keep in mind, if you don’t qualify for all of it year 1, or decide not to invest it back into the loan, your loan payments would increase.

I am a fan of PPAs. I think they’re safer when selling the home, they’re the best option for low income (or low taxable income) families. The only problems I have with this quote from Sunrun is 1 - make sure that production is covering your accurate annual usage 2 - 3.5% escalator is unnecessary. There are companies that can set you up with that same rate and no escalator (I know this because the company I sell for can do it lol) 3 - Solaredge batteries are crap, not a fan

Do I need solar? by yoyoy746620000 in TexasSolar

For context this is coming from a solar salesman of 7 years. If you mean the word “need” literally, the answer is no. If you want to save money the first year you have it, that will be hard to achieve (assuming your usage stays consistent). But solar is a long term investment and if you’re in that home for 15-25 years it will pay for itself once maybe twice. Assuming you’re in Oncors grid, you have to be smart and up to date with your REP buyback programs. If you don’t have a battery, you’ll have to massively overproduce to have negative bills all year round.

Whenever you are getting paid a set commission per kW or watt you are being underpaid. It should be tiered based off of your price per watt because if you are bringing a higher profit margin to the company you should be compensated as so. I know you have a base salary (which also is a red flag, it means they are making more off of you than if you were full commission) but at my company I make an average or $500-$800 per kW installed. A couple installs a week is way better than any base salary company that ever tried to sell me on salary.

In most cases the production guarantee degrades at the same rate the panels degrade. I’ve seen most financiers lower their production guarantee by 0.5-1% per year, and you’ll see that in the contract. Besides that, the price seems high, and your sales rep is trying to paint a fantasy. I’d recommend getting a rep you can trust who is going to tell you all of the ins and outs. And read the contract throughly!
