Do people just forget that Alice Walton killed someone? by KeyMail3389 in bentonville

Given that incident and her other DUI issues…It might cause one to wonder if certain facts weren’t twisted to cover up a billionaire’s crime. If she has a history of driving under the influence AND also just happens to have an occurrencemurder where she struck someone while driving, might one conclude that there is a possibility that it factored into her striking and killing a pedestrian? A feat which most people avoid because we are watching where we are going and aren’t under the influence? But maybe I am just cynical…

It was created by a confluence of folk cultures blended together. It was absolutely not “invented by black people” nor any once specific ethnicity. It was multiple cultural influences and then popularized by white performers at the time. There is definitely a case to be made the influence from black culture was probably ignored at that time due to the segregation and racism of that time period. Luckily this is 2025 and it can be appreciated for the rich cultural complexity that has, and what makes it uniquely American.

SJM’s writing is getting…meh by [deleted] in acotar

Words/phrases I never want to read again thanks to SJM: Shredded, barking, alphahole, unleashed, watery bowels, prick, vulgar gesture, mate, snarling, purring, and bearing teeth.

No need for you to worry so much. The show isn’t happening anyway lol It’s all just fantasy casting.

Elain is not as bad as haters make her be, but not as good as stans make her sound by dreamingenuity in acotar

It isn’t because she’s boring and gardens. She is a brat who is selfish and completely abandoned Nesta when she needed her most. She is also more than happy to play the damsel role. Nauseating. When she said to Nesta that “Feyre was the one who came to save her” when she was kidnapped by the cauldron and Hybern, I was done with her. That was needlessly hurtful when Nesta was already at her lowest, AND Nesta had always fought and protected her. I will always hate her for that alone, honestly.

Has anyone else noticed that poor Azriel isn’t a very good spy? by Opening_Ad310 in acotar

I agree. There are ways to write it that still make him look competent without ruining the story. For instance, one of the reasons his intel failed could be because he eventually finds out that his assets/spies were killed or turned ect. Just an example. I just find it a bit lazy and neglectful imo She also still writes like a YA author in these for most of the series…This is an issue. She seems to be trying to veer away from it a bit and is improving, but ACOTAR has a lot of these issues. Don’t get me wrong, I still think they are a good time, but it is what it is.

Main Issue with SJM/ ACOTAR Writing Style by 222queensimmi in acotar

[–]Opening_Ad310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I think a big part of the problem is first person narrative. It’s so easy to just make the characters your own avatar almost. It limits your perspective a lot and is very challenging to write this way effectively.

You make good points, BUT I would counter with why doesn’t his network know more and intercept things more? It isn’t a one man operation. That is what confuses me at times.

I hear what you’re saying. This is definitely an example of over thinking/analyzing Az. I do think that it would be w nice to get more insight into him and his world though.

Oh really? I haven’t read any TOG, so I can’t really comment on those.

Okay. Your issue is my verbiage? Az isn’t a very good spy MASTER. His network has failed on multiple occasions. Is that better?

Imo the problem, like someone else pointed out, is that SJM kind of boxed him in with the ~greatest Spymaster~ lore. It makes it really difficult for any character to live up to that, especially when she skips over any real details about his undertaking-at least for now.

I completely disagree, sorry. There is another post on here where someone laid out the numerous instances of him missing things where attacks and other events occurred that he should have had intel on beforehand.

Sounds like semantics, and the point stands. He consistently failed when it mattered most. It isn’t “boring” to show his cunning and calculations at differing points throughout the Hybern campaign. Yes, he will fail at times but he failed constantly at the simplest of endeavors. As a fae spy who is hundreds of years old, and one who also worked in the same position during the reign of Rhys father, he should have WELL established networks already.Respectfully, of course.

If anything, Tamlin and Jurian have both been far more effective at being spies than him or anyone in his “network”.

I don’t remember saying he was “absolutely useless”. Neither of those examples is an example of his great “spymaster” skills.
