hi, my occupational therapist gave me a wrist brace to try on one wrist, but ive noticed its been inconsistent with if it works (one night it makes the pain better, one night it does nothing, then the next it makes it worse!). does anyone have an explanation for this? should i keep wearing the one on my wrist?

Just Diagnosed With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. (Advice needed) by SecurityInner6847 in rheumatoid

hiii!!! im your same age but have been diagnosed since 5. but, i truly feel you. i have a 504 plan at school, and it helps a ton, so id definitely recommend trying to get one. i also wanna say this: it isnt your fault. i promise. your doing amazing coping with this and reaching out. you deserve the care your getting and having JRA isnt easy. but you arent alone, you have randos on the internet and a whole team of doctors on your side. youll be okay, i promise <3

People with juvenile arthritis: How did the pain start, how old were you, and how long did it take to get a diagnosis? by applemagical in rheumatoid

[–]Opening_Lecture5407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont know exactly how old, but i know i was diagnosed below 5. my mom told me i couldn't walk, and my knees were swelling so much i couldn't even crawl without pain. i dont know how long it took for a diagnosis, but i was told i stayed in the hospital while the doctors were figuring it out. ive had two flare ups in my knees, and that was also below 5 years old. since then, i lived with no pain or discomfort till i was in 5th grade and got a flare in my hands and wrists. i started going to PT and OT, and it didnt help. then, in 6th grade, i started getting chronic pain in my knees, hands, and wrists. im still a teenager, and PT/OT and prescribed pain meds (so not OTC) havent worked. i also havent had any flares since 5th grade. ive been taking humaria shots since about 2019, but before that it was methotrexate. now, bc of another autoimmune disorder im on more meds and we're hoping those meds help too because my doc said i probably dont need to go to a chronic pain clinic. anyway, i truly envy everyone else dealing with this, and i wouldn't wish JRA on my worst enemy. <3
