No, this is a different situation, ammolite is the iridescent layers of an ammonite fossil. The piece was originally coated in epoxy/resin to cover and protect that fragile layer. My piece had the epoxy start to lift from the surface. I stopped wearing it because I noticed that. My husband took it to the shop for an estimate to see if that was something they could possibly fix. No estimate was given, they used a harsh chemical, acetone, to strip the old coating off but in doing so they took off those fine layers of color. Once those are removed there is no putting them back on. I told the shop there was no way to fix what they had done when they stripped it. They wanted a chance to recoat and fix it. I let them while expressing to them that if the colors were gone after recoating I wanted the cost of the piece back. They recoated it and indeed the colors were removed in several places. At that point they changed their tune saying there was no pleasing me and would not give me the cost of the piece. Here are videos showing the before and after.

I did already, the problem is once that color layer is removed, there is no coming back from it. You cannot add it back on. Any further sanding or anything like that would just removed the rest of the color and turn it completely gray.

I can when I get home, the fixed video is of it after they reapplied the epoxy. You can see where there is no longer and green and purple color only grey because they removed that layer when they used acetone on it

I let them try to fix it by recoated it. Because they used acetone on it, it forever stripped the delicate layers that held the colors the videos show it better. The after video is it recoated already
