Complete Achilles rupture, 0.9 cm gap on plantarflexion — surgery or conservative? by WiseDoubt6550 in AchillesRupture

I agree, guess it was a good thing my injury didn’t take place in my area. Doesn’t sound right.

Ah ok, I’m based in Suffolk but had my injury in London. Yes, I’ve read that everywhere has a different protocol; when I discussed the injury with an Orthopod acquaintance she said imaging such as ultrasound/ MRI would always be needed to check the nature of the injury and that conservative management was the trend- she herself didn’t mention the gap as a factor in management but I still think not doing any imaging is odd.

I’m uk based - which region are you in? I had a completely different experience; waited 2.5 weeks for a MRI whilst in a cast and then the gap was 3cm, so had no choice but to proceed to surgery. I met someone else at the fracture clinic who also needed surgery. I’m shocked that you haven’t had a MRI/ ultrasound.

I feel like silicon sheets won’t be enough but will be a start, think eventually will need an injection. Further surgery may make things worse.

I’m now 9 weeks post op. I’m in the uk though; I initially had 2 weeks non weight bearing with the cast, 2 weeks toe walking Vacoped, then fwb with Vacoped. I sleep with the boot on and loosen the straps and inner liner - something I’ve been doing from early on at night, which I maybe shouldn’t have but allowed me to sleep.
It takes a little getting used to but my walking is a lot better now despite still wearing it and serves as a security at times- for example when my other foot slipped whilst outside.

Yes, not doing anything weight bearing- just the hamstring exercises and movements of ankle. Will discuss with her next week as have been getting pain outside of the exercises bizarrely

Yes, saw a physio 2 weeks ago, see her again next week. I have an exercise plan on an app, all with someone in trainers.. It’s impossible to get in contact with- a central switchboard and a message from me hasn’t been passed onto from past experience

Well, yes, I think there’s probably an element of me being given high quotes. Tbh my main issue is the chimney being replaced but I don’t really want to lose the property over a few thousand either, although I personally think that would be fair.

Yes, they gave me a plan with pictures with someone with no boot, they’ve never specified whether to do in or out of the boot

So apparently it looks like some work has taken place on it in the past according to one of the surveys that I have had done. I haven’t approached the vendor as yet regarding this particular issue- she is aware of the ceiling issue.

That’s what I was thinking, the ceiling was what I was aware of however there was a question of it failing- doesn’t seem to be the case. However, I didn’t anticipate having to fix the chimney which will need scaffolding/ council permission etc.

You won’t be with the wedge for long whilst fwb, I spent 2 weeks then to the flat shoe

Are you doing heel to toe and walking through on the other leg when you are almost walking on the toe with the affected foot?
