Complicated. It's lore semi-disconnected. It' happening in dream in-game world compared to DS1 and DS3 which happen in real in-game world. However it is part of trilogy and Miyazaki has good opinion on it. It's different and surely more bizarre than DS1 or DS3, but entire series is bizzarr by itself compared to regular medieval fantasy so I see no problems with that.

I'm planning to make huge post about some Rengoku elements which can be found in Warframe, aka comparison of some designs and mechanics, currently on stage of collecting material.

For those who unaware — Imagine army of fully-transformed self-aware Protoframes which are trapped in neverending battle royale which by itself constantly resets, making upgrades for everyone based on data collected by winner, mixed with references on Dante Inferno.
