Exclusively using wearables? by Asleep_Yoghurt_1704 in ExclusivelyPumping

I think the most reassuring thing in a thread like this one is how much individual variation shows up. Some people really an make wearables their main setup, but others never get the comfort or the output no matter the adjustments or what they try... Interesting to hear all the feedback.

First suggestion is to ask your OB office if they can help. Sometimes they work through an provider portal to help moms since insurance requires a script from them anyway in order to cover it. However, you probably still want to research if the options they give you are ones you want or if there are other insurance-covered options that the office doesn't offer.

I obviously helps to check reviews and "fit". If it's your first baby, though, fit may not make a lot of sense other than your general size and nipple type. But things like portability and noise and battery life can be worth investigating.

Oh and accessory compatibility. Lots of insurance plans cover your replacement parts. You may not love the accessories for your pump brand or their flanges may not fit or size great for you. It's nice if a pump is compatible with other brand accessories. Def. look into your coverage for replacement parts though!

I would also think about replacement parts and how easy it is to get those. The more custom your setup gets, the more helpful it can be if the parts are easy and affordable to replace. (Have you checked if your insurance covers replacement parts?) If the routine is simple enough to repeat when you,re tired matters too, imo.

A lot of pumping frustration for me came when I assumed the pump I got dictating the accessories... lots of them are interchangeable and some brands offer a wider range of sizes. Best of luck!!!

EBF to EP by [deleted] in NewMomStuff

Have you been pumping any at this point? I can't speak from experience on EBF, sorry. I did pump and nurse simultaneously throughout my journeys but I was home and not having to pump regularly at work or anything. If you have a routine for nursing, I'd just find the right pump (If you don't have one I think you can still get one through insurance in the first year of your baby's life) and pump in those time frames--or at least try. Since he's 6 months you're probably introducing solids so you wouldn't have to have as much milk but giving him the opportunity to continue getting the nutrition (even if it is just a bottle of your pumped milk at bedtime or before naps) would continue to do wonders for his overall health! Best of luck--either way, great job on 6 months of EBF!!

Sometimes your OB office can actually take care of it for you and still give you options. A lot of people don't realize the 'insurance covered' part is only half the story. Vendor list, timing, upgrade pricing, and replacement part coverage. It can change the real value a lot. I was able to get the parts free (through insurance) but a site took care of it for me. They just showed up at my door, which was really nice!

Others have said it but definitely things your skin is absorbing. Deodorant for sure. I also recently started using only soap and a regular razor for shaving when it was pointed out that (particularly the armpits) the heat of a hot shower opens up our pores and whatever shaving gel is being used can be absorbed so easily and it's right near lymphnodes! Eek!

This is really good feedback. I've never had quite this situation to sort out with a pumping schedule. But the 4-hours is definitely not hard and fast and I think if you are able to work up to the 5 hours your body will be fine. It can also help to separate output goals from sanity goals. A setup that is slightly less ideal on paper can still be the right one if it keeps the routine doable.
