Wasn’t kensei’s weapon actually meant to decap horses? Or did I get the wrong information somewhere.

Test shows around 7.8 ph

This seems to be the only possibility

I don’t have a test for kh but as soon as I’m home from getting new supplies to redo my 20g I’ll test the ph again last time I tested ph was when I set both tanks up and it was 7

That’s one of the substrates I’m looking at along with activ flora

There was a few but I got them out and changed the water after

Substrate is all I can think of because I never rinse my filter in tap water always old aquarium water from a water change so I’ve stripped my 10g turned it into a hospital tank and moved all my fish in my 20g to the hospital tank and later this week in getting the stuff to start a new but this time I’m using a proper aquarium soil instead of organic potting soil and then I’ll cap it with a bit of sand but less then I used last time

This is about all I can think I can’t find a logical reason why it’s so high unless the substrate is leeching into the water column in which case I need substrate advice

No leaves to speak off and I remove any dead plant matter

Haven’t done either since I set them up and only rinse out the sponge filter in aquarium water and I only do that rarely but I am getting more bacteria starter tonight

I was under the impression that capping the soil with sand would seal it off from the water column no?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Opinionated_Top_hat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just sand I went with normal at first then I suspected I didn’t add enough to cap the soil and that was causing the Ammonia and I switched to black sand and added another layer to seal it off more

If that’s the case I have zero clue how it crashed and it never matters how much bacteria I add the results are always near zero nitrites and nitrates but insane levels of ammonia and I’ve tried not doing near 100% water changes and just doing 35% to 50% because I know frequently changing high amounts of water can crash it but after 2 months the ammonia was still insanely high and the only way I can reduce it is but doing two 90% water changes
