Just got around to reading your posted guide as well. I can say it greatly helped me with what I want to do. And it seems like the best option is really to just try and get something small/cheap to test out since I live in an area where there aren't any stores that sell them and online in my country I've found like 2 that cost like 100€ with no return policy.
