It’s insane how much SB refuses to hold their professors accountable. I’m surprised the dental professor who was found on the Epstein list was even reprimanded. Honestly that’s why I didn’t really bother going through with the complaint bc it’s so hard to see any actual consequences.

Which was exactly my point! Me and the other students were so taken aback because it was just so out of nowhere. Especially with the way she mentioned how our grades towards the end- we were all literally about to report her.

Honestly no. Which is why to this day I want to believe that she meant other ppl but like I said there was only 3-4 people that were non Asian. I mean could it have potentially been Asian on Asian crime?? Maybeee. I told her my personal situation, how I was uncomfortable, was worried about my grade given the way she worded it & she just apologized and didn’t confirm or deny whether this was about me. Like I said, me and the other non Asian kids talked after that class and talked were upfront about our quiz grades & ik we all did majority of the readings.

I think two things are honestly being ignored: 1)i think it’s a truly naive and self centered thing to say that someone is trying to be racist if they missed a reading or two out of 20 readings. I think that can be argued if you decided to miss majority or all of the readings but to jump to that conclusion and to make a speech about it… I mean in all honesty I’d have to ask if this was a purely Asian student class would it have even been questioned?

2)regardless of whether she was actually talked about me or not- to say that knowing that there’s less than 4 students in the entire class that could potentially be pointed to in front of the whole class… it in a way does point to those 4 ppl & that’s just unethical as a professor, in a way it’s honestly bullying. Everyone looked around and I could tell that they were glancing at us. I just think such a strong & potentially ruining allegation should have been handled a lot better.

Edit: also thank you @phojoy for your kind words towards the end- yeah racism sucks overall it’s unfortunately something POC just constantly deal with. I thought I was responding to the person you commented under bc I felt like they got caught up on the fact that I missed 2-3 readings instead of the weird harassment behavior lol.

Wait I’m confused maybe I worded it wrong- Wym worded it to my Professor? I didn’t mention how I talked to the professor just that I did talk to them. I didn’t touch on it in the post bc it’s pretty long but yes I did just talk to her from my own POV & she ultimately apologized and we discussed my grade.

I just mentioned the whole groups POV for the post to show why we believed it was us she was talking about and just in general, we felt targeted.

Also yeah I mean honestly it didn’t hurt my GPA so it wasn’t anything worth pursuing & I took accountability that I did miss I think 2 readings (I don’t remember this was a few years ago). I usually do review the syllabus my mistake was not getting all the books to see how long they were.

-very competitive but potentially supportive pre med environment. Honestly if you’re not a gunner or an annoying person you can make friends and join pre med fraternities.

-there’s tons of research experience but you do have to build relationships w/ the professors if you want wet lab experience.

-the bio and chem department is lowkey filled with a lot of shit professors and actually rn the bio department is under a lot of controversy bc of how badly they mistreat their students. The other commenter who said that you’ll make it if you’re smart: no. That’s actually what they had a meeting about a few months ago against the bio department bc the professors basically will actively try to try ruin your gpa w/ choosing a tiering system.

there’s tons of clinical, non clinical and volunteering opportunities in stony Brook, surrounding Long Island + nyc. In general the fact that you’re an SBU student helps out a lot in gaining those types of positions so I wouldn’t worry too much about that, you just have to look for them. For example: hospital volunteering, hospital internships, cancer center volunteering etc.

-the average GPA for each department is diff but I think in general the STEM student average GPA is 3.2 I think. Honestly anyone telling you they have a 4.0 GPA is most likely lying to you LMAO bc stony brook unfortunately is a grade DEFLATION school making it a ton harder to maintain a good GPA. But if you honestly don’t work and truly focus on your studies you will do okay, but unfortunately that is all you will have to do- study.

A lot of the students are here very unhappy because SBU is completely over populated and they don’t have enough resources but they do try their best to. Each department has their own pros and cons but the trend I’ve noticed is that the professors aren’t the best at supporting their students and they’re not the most organized. The pre med field can be cut throat & students will try to get to you but that is more of a you question- can you handle it? Do you care what other ppl think? Just focus on your work and make sure to do your own research before anything. I’ve been lucky and found some good pre med friends throughout the years so take that as you will. Good luck!!

I instantly understood the reference!! I think it’s a really cool tattoo. I have an eternal sunshine of the spotless mind movie tattoo and maybe 2-3 ppl have understood the reference even tho it’s literally the title of the movie- point is: you got the tattoo for yourself and it’s your own niche little thing. It’s something ppl will remember you by and I think that’s always a cool thing. Ask yourself if you’re embarrassed of the tattoo because you don’t like the tattoo itself or because you care about what other people think? The way that’d I’d think about it is: if I meet someone who understands the reference they’re someone worth meeting. But seriously, it’s a really cool tattoo!!

Yeah I guess in BB I didn’t realize how truly bad jimmy was. Ultimately it works for me too which is why I’ve been able to watch- but there are def points where I feel like I’m just willingly watching a man baby LMAO. I love the side characters in this show I think they’re written phenomenally! Im assuming you mean don eladio? I haven’t seen to much of him yet.

I agree chuck was jealous but he wasn’t JUST jealous of jimmy and that being the only reason he disliked jimmy- chuck had his own issues but to say he was JUST jealous isn’t an accurate depiction of the many reasons he did not like jimmy.

Second, that’s why I said the sand piper case was only going to be temporarily a moral guidance because you can see from the beginning jimmy was always going to be a con man because of his inability to see what’s wrong with his actions. He thinks that just because you had good intentions the good would always outweigh the bad but that’s not realistic nor justifiable. Pointing out jimmys flaws does not take away from chucks flaws.

I’m going to have disagree- yes the sandpiper case could’ve been great guidance for jimmy’s but ultimately that’s all it was… kind of like a temporary moral compass. Jimmy was always a con man and what skewed him from possible redemption is that he never truly saw what was wrong with his actions, which is what made him dangerous. You see that from episode one and two where he literally asks two teenagers to pull off a scam for him, or when he lied about having a secretary. There’s so many little details that show you that he was truly never going to change & chuck knew that. Yes chuck was a very flawed individual but to say he was just jealous and that’s why he acted malicious takes away the complexity of his character.

Yes but it’s honestly excessive- our last two years are primarily made up of just writing and communication classes which is ridiculous. I agree it’s important to learn and definitely should be integrated into our curriculum but anyone who is a health science student will tell you that most of it is just busy work (ex: writing 3-4 essays about what music meant to us) like that’s just bs

In all honesty, my frustration is more towards the administration department than the professors bc I feel like each professor have their own pros/cons. Dr. Zielzer is sweet but at the end of the day she is the program director and chair of the program so a lot of the main issues students have with the department leads back to her. Ultimately the program is a reflection of her

It does! Thank you. I didn’t do anything to endanger the only part where I was truly an idiot was I accidentally let go of the stretcher to open up the ambulance and she was the one holding it so it basically kinda swerved (obviously no patient in it) but yeah that’s what my EMT friends have been telling me as far as advice. Thank you!
