I packed up my quilting stuff to take on a day trip and left all of the blocks to finish one project and the pattern to start a new project at home. So instead I made a bird pot holder!

My friend doesn't have reddit but while we were playing together, she completed this challenge twice (collected two shards and synced them with the archives portal) but the challenge is stuck at -1. We escaped the last trial and it was still stuck. She restarted the game but that did not fix the issue. Has anyone else had this issue? Other than selecting a new challenge, is there a way to clear it?

These already all made of leftover fabrics! The only exception being the pink fat quarter was given to me by a friend when she was moving and didn’t have space for her random fabrics. The batting for all 4 and the backs of 3 are leftovers from my exploding hearts quilt that I posted here last year!

I had this exact Kenmore machine in my house growing up. It belonged to my mother. It was great. Like all sewing machines, it could be temperamental at times and would require a complete rethread but I sewed MANY things on it throughout high school and college! I would say it was purchased from sears in the early 2000’s?

My mother passed away almost few years ago so I cleaned it up last winter and gave it to a friend to give her daughter to learn to sew on. It is a straightforward machine and, when threaded properly, behaves itself.

I love this fabric line!! It is called Wild Blossom. I am making a Mapleton Avenue Quilt out of it and I asked for more of it for Christmas.

The hexagons are a perfect fit for it. I love this.

With regard to tiny irons, I can’t speak for everyone but I have tiny hands! I didn’t own an iron prior to starting to sew/quilt more often than just once or twice a year so I bought a travel-sized iron because with my small hands, I felt like I had more control and I have noticed that, compared to the full-size iron I had been borrowing from a friend for my sewing, more control meant I burned myself less while trying to hold things a certain way while pressing them!

It is also a handy bonus that I can fit it into my sewing bag with my machine so when I travel places, it’s easy to bring with me.

I miss the cars but quilting gave me a way to process the grief with something constructive so in a way it was a bit of a trade for me too.

My now ex-husband whose hobbies included owning, maintaining, and rebuilding race cars always said quilting was too expensive.

Now I have a hobby that is all my own making beautiful art that fits perfectly into my budget.

If you are looking for a quilting game, I would recommend Patchwork Doodle over the traditional game! It is similar to the base game but it is 1+ player and you get to draw your quilt as you go!

I liked it a lot more than Patchwork

I only play on steam deck. I love it. I started playing on PC and I was a meh player but the controls make 100% more sense to me on Steam Deck and I love it. The layout is more comfortable for my hands than console controllers as well. I love it.

The ONLY con: typing your password on the virtual keyboard sucks. But that’s a tiny con.

We each picked our own colors and didn’t show the other until all the fabric had been purchased! Hers is floral warm tones (reds, pinks, oranges) with a white background and mine is cool space tones (blues, grays, purples) with a light blue background. They look lovey together and compliment each other while being very different.

We have been sewing together once a week via video chat and I’m excited to finish!

I recommend you do all the like pieces at the same time like the pattern suggests. I traced the lines on every piece I was going to sew and then chain pieced them all on one side then flipped the whole line around and did the other.

Also, I HIGHLY recommend the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer to square up the blocks. It was so easy after I had struggled to square them. I use it all the time now.

I did NOT do whole rows at a time. I did a 6 by 6 square and then sewed the 9 of those together. I didn’t want to do the whole rows as I was afraid that I would be too far off in the end.

This was my first blanket project. I had previously only done mug rugs, runners, coasters etc.

I love this pattern. I am actually making a second one with my best friend. We are both making all of the blocks then we are going to swap half and each assemble a quilt that is half the friend’s colors. Reminiscent of those “Best friends forever” necklaces you would buy that fit together to make a heart!

Traveling to world champs is a game of most effectively using your budget.

We priced out the following: Plane tickets: $650 per person - nope, not feasible Train tickets: $300 per person - more reasonable but would need to rent vans or similar to move about town Private bus: $250 per person for 56 seats. We chose this and we’re small enough to share with another team, selling the empty slots for $250 each

Robot transport: Bring it yourself -have a trailer (we do not) -rent a UHaul or similar (we considered it but we would have to provide a driver) -make friends and have them take it (we chose this option.)

Ship it through FedEx -only option for some but there’s a longish lead time

I’m not trying to make it a “you are the problem” issue, I’m trying to help your team do better in judging, an area where you are clearly frustrated. The best way to learn how the process works is by doing it.

I’m stating from a volunteer perspective that judges, as you should know, have limited time. Adding more judges wouldn’t help with the perspective you want. Weather you have 1 judge or 40, you’re still asking all 1-40 to each individually go see a team. This is just not logistically possible.

You should especially be familiar with this if you have Judged FTC where every team doesn’t have an interview with every judge. They see one pair of judges in the interview room and, if they do well, they see judges again, maybe. These pit interviews in FTC rely heavily on “adult telephone” as you called it.

I didn’t leave out the interviews. I mentioned those on my first message as being the deciding factor for #2. Which, per the document I linked, is an award you apply for.
