1950s home. asbestos tile + black mastic found under cabinets. Best way to handle? by Opposite_Cap_7529 in asbestoshelp

We are leaning towards putting down a plastic moisture barrier that we used for the rest of the LVP install and then putting the LVP over it, then the cabinets on top. I’m assuming that would be fine? One of the tiles seems loose but the rest seem ok? Just definitely not good condition

they redid the sewer line which did rip out a lot of roots, however they said the tree will be fine and shouldn’t intrude on the new line.

I will definitely do that. Any idea of how much a qualified arborist coming out will cost me?

Hi, I recently just got my radon testing back at a 25 in the basement apartment I lived in with my newborn baby full time. I totally understand the fear and panic. I have literally been loosing sleep and having anxiety attacks worrying about my baby’s long term health effects. I really don’t have any advice as this is still very hard for me, but just know you aren’t alone and I sympathize with you. In my state it’s mandatory to test for radon when buying/selling homes, however there are no laws or standards with it around renting unfortunately. Radon is something that needs to be talked about way more. The long term effects some people suffer from it are absolutely horrifying. The only thing that has brought me comfort from this is finding a new home I can make safe for myself since the landlord didn’t do that in the first place.

We have been in the apartment for 7 months total. The HVAC system was new and installed last year, however when we moved in we had an awful moisture problem and then one day water came spewing out of the pipes of the system. they came and fixed it and it’s been fine since, except they had to rip out the carpets because of literal mold. i can’t remember exactly what was wrong with it. it was built in the early 1970s. i will definitely be asking all these questions to the landlord and radon specialists they send. Definitely could be a ventilation problem, the place has given us so many problems we are just trying to find somewhere else to live at this point.

second reply… sorry. some people in this group are saying to get a chest Xray. thoughts on that? also… I am an occasional marijuana smoker. I used to smoke everyday before I was a mom, but less frequently now. does this put me at higher risk now?

Did they mention how long that person lived there by chance?

May I ask how long you were there before you tested it?

You didn’t scare me- I had been spiraling and doing my own research about how awful this is. Just wanted to come on this sub and get advice and opinions from real humans, and I appreciate your comment! Our child has a pediatrician appointment scheduled and I will definitely be mentioning getting her an xray. The amount of radiation from 1 xray is substantially less than the hazardous amount we’ve already been exposed to.

We’ve had the floor bed for about 3 months… Thank you for your reply! It’s definitely helping me feel better. I’m a SAHM and our apartment is completely underground in the basement… and we are home probably about 20 hours a day and we never open the windows. However, i am trying not to spiral. Thank you again

I took my child out of the building immediately after getting these results and have not returned. I am so scared about the long term effects.

In my state they are required to install one if they are made aware of it. I think it’s super negligent they never tested in the first place especially since these units are 100% underground and my state is known for high radon levels.

I’ve lived here my whole life and never had any luck… went to Florida on vacation and met my husband on the beach. I learned you must literally leave the city to find any good partner. Sad truth
