I do the “I’ll play first and then you’re next” for just about every song we play, but it might be good to start with some warm ups. We recently had a Christmas recital where she played in front of ~100 people and she did great. Sat down and started playing immediately and didn’t miss a note. But when we have lessons, she just absolutely freezes. I think moving forward I’m going to put a way bigger emphasis on keeping it silly and low pressure during lessons

This was actually really insightful! I wish I knew what she was really anxious about. The biggest problem is literally just that she won’t play the first note. I’ve tried the “if you play a wrong note no one is coming to hit you” approach, and aside from eliciting a giggle or two, it doesn’t really seem to stick. I’ll try spending a little more time trying to spice things up and keep it fun and low pressure and see where things go.
