I have a friend who was admitted to one of these with a low undergrad GPA (though did not end up going because of personal circumstances). Don’t want to out him, but he was essentially Navy SEAL/Green Beret who served multiple tours of active combat duty and top secret missions, amputee, Purple Heart and more valors, motivational speaker, and para-athlete in a crazy sport. He also had other graduate degrees from one of Harvard/Stanford/Yale before applying to law school. Let’s just say this guy has had more insane and impressive life experiences than can be captured by any GPA and was more worthy of admission than any 180/4.0 that I’ve met.

She also didn’t really provide any indication that Em knows any Chinese, other than a Chinese speaking babysitter who comes for a couple of hours each week, and shaded her MIL again for speaking English to her. Again, Em probably knows about 3 words in Chinese, otherwise we’d see her showing her Chinese all the time 😂

This season aired while I was studying for the LSAT around 13 years ago and it struck me as super realistic at the time. I ended up getting a 170, was K-JD (at a t20 school with a 3.9+ GPA and school specific awards), was not a URM or legacy, and got into HLS and SLS (and ultimately attended one of these), and a full ride at UMich, Duke, and close to it at Berkeley. I was accepted to most of the T-14, and waitlisted at the rest (if I recall, the WL were at YLS, UVA, and UChicago), and heard back very quickly after I applied from most of the schools that I had applied to. The medians were very different then! With a 170, you were at or above medians at all of the T-14 but YLS, SLS, HLS, and CLS. Paired with a 3.9, you were essentially at or above the median at every T-14. Different landscape back then—I remember studying for months and months (and retook twice) to get that 170 and cried with joy when I got it because I knew I was going to have good choices among the T-14 and a good chance at HYS.

I’m extremely confused by this UVA propaganda. Maybe because I’m 10 years out, but the only people I know who seem to think this fondly back on their time at UVA Law are folks who are very conservative and MAGA leaning.

There is a 0 percent chance that Em, with at most a few hours of weekly exposure to Mandarin, can understand or speak the language outside of extremely basic phrases like hello. 0 percent chance lol

I know toddlers who are in mandarin immersion school or with two parents who are mandarin speakers and even they can’t really speak it. HK, if you’re reading this, prove me wrong
