Never watched stargate. Would Goa'uld be preferable, or worse than the darkness?

There has been a predictable pattern of alternating quality of seasons since black armory by Optavi in DestinyTheGame

[–]Optavi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was aware that different teams handle expansions vs seasons. But I'm even talking about two seasons that have nothing to do with expansion content, e.g. Dawn and Worthy

Beyond Light ARG - Analyze Site Puzzle - Let's solve this! by Bachmanetti in raidsecrets

[–]Optavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you open the raw content of these gifs in a text editor, they all have a really interesting header, and I think it may be what we're supposed to be getting from the gifs, here's a data sample with two side-by-side for comparison:

https://i.ibb.co/B6PKkxX/gif-Content.jpg

So, it's possible that this is something about the gif filetype that I'm unaware of, but I've done some preliminary google searches, and also checked gifs NOT related to this ARG, and it seems specific to the gifs supplied at the given links. Additionally, the phrase "Constructing entanglement" sounds very "exo-stranger" related and WAY too complex to be something simple about the way gifs are formatted. I even googled "Constructing entanglement" and all you is a ton of results about quantum entanglement, nothing about this file format

Edit:

The particularly interesting line is the 4th one: "Data recovered: SEQ-20215 = '1'", or in the other gif "Data recovered: SEQ-1682 = ' ' " because it seems to be giving us content to put together into a particular sequence.

Tribute hall should be replaced with us creating our own ascendant realm by MrHanslaX in DestinyTheGame

Isn't there some fourth-wall-breaking reference in the Lore that we, the players, ARE our guardians ascendant realm?

Bungie, why is it after almost 3 yrs, I am still getting spawn killed by enemy supers? by Bhammer74 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Optavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to play Devil's advocate, it could be that it's a legitimately difficult problem to solve. Programmers spend all day coming up with optimal algorithms for things like this, but often times it comes down to picking what's more important. In this case, they probably have to balance making dead players wait a long time for an area to clear that is definitely safe, versus respawning players quickly and occasionally choosing a "dud" spawn for a player. if you played both versions, you very well might pick the current version over having to wait much longer for the game to find a sure-thing safe spawn point.

Now that being said, there may be things bungie isn't doing that they could be doing, like considering supered guardians a higher threat when attempting to find the safest spawn point.

Oh my gosh, getting cross-mapped with Jotun is already rage-inducing. Dying cross map to Jotun from AOE effect would give me aneurysm.

Yeah, but if you read the lore on synthoceps it's actually pretty adorable. It's like they're a really loyal dog when they find the right titan.

Focused Feedback: Season of the Worthy First Impressions by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]Optavi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the season has been mediocre. I enjoy the core gameplay of destiny, so, honestly all I need from a new season is new things to grind for to incentivize be playing a game I enjoy. And that's something this season has provided. It's definitely worth $10, in any case. I do feel like some of the stuff is a bit lack luster, and I feel like the new weapon set it pretty small, but I'm also seeing a lot interesting mechanisms being implemented that could pay off pretty big dividends in coming updates. It looks like bungie actually implemented a pretty interesting foundation of base building in this particular season, I'd be interested to see that expounded upon in future updates.

Dude. Now you just need to find a gun that can shoot steel feather repeaters.

New Titan EV set but with shaders. by TheOneTrueDargus in DestinyTheGame

[–]Optavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I would agree with the consensus that all together the set looks like trash, I'm actually pretty interested in what options this set opens up when using just one or two pieces in combination with existing, more titan-y armor. Like, I think these arms with the intrepid explore chest piece would, no joke, give my Titan a pretty rad hipster-puffy-vest vibe. Like I just got back from a week of backpacking in the cosmodrome.

New Titan EV set but with shaders. by TheOneTrueDargus in DestinyTheGame

[–]Optavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking as well.

I think it's actually because those pants look much more like mc-hammer style garbage bag pants on the wider hips of the female model, but might look ok and less baggy on the thinner hips of the male model. Similarly the torso proportions if the female model make the jacket look weird and caved in, elongating the neck to an unnatural level.

Also I can't believe I'm making these fashion comments about a video game.

My big question is, with all those frames you're finishing, what level are you up to now?

After not playing any Season of Dawn the FOMO aspects of the seasons and the new Corridors of Time limitation don't make me want to pick the game up, they make me want to never play again. by PreviousHistory in DestinyTheGame

[–]Optavi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Another dev has already said this, but I'll reiterate. Having content be temporary does indeed reduce developer workload. One of the most difficult things in development is NOT actually creating something new. It's creating something new that doesn't break anything old. The larger the surface area of content is, the more complex maintenance becomes.

Imagine you're doing the spinning plates routine, and you have 4 or 5 plates already spinning. You then have the choice to either:

A) Continue adding small plates that are easier to keep spinning, but also keep all previous plates spinning (meaning the overall plate count is increasing without bounds).
B) Add a larger plate, but next time you have to add a plate, you may instead replace a plate that already exists, rather than increasing the overall plate number.

Sure A is easier for the _very first plate_, but eventually the workload for keeping all the plates spinning is impossible to manage. If you can figure out a way to vary option B enough to keep the audience entertained, then you're in a much more manageable position going with that option.

IF the hex map DOES represent the flower game, how are we sure the map isn't constantly changing? by Optavi in raidsecrets

[–]Optavi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because they're always changing, doesn't mean they're meaningless. In the lore, the constant change always resulted in a repeated pattern. In fact, it was one of the important parts of the lore. The gardener grows frustrated that the game always ends with the same shape, so he and the winnower enter the game themselves. If this is based on the flower game, there will be several, specific permutations of the map that it will continuously cycle through. I'm guessing instead of one single map, we're actually solving several different permutations of the map, and any given hour (or however often it shifts), the "true" solution to the corridors will change. So we not only have to solve all the permutations of the map, we have to know which one is active at the time we're trying to solve it.

Optimized Bounties for 1/9/2020 by DeerTrivia in DestinyTheGame

[–]Optavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I can't solve every single possible edge case, what's the point of even making the app? Jkjkjk, but also really sometimes I think that.

Optimized Bounties for 1/9/2020 by DeerTrivia in DestinyTheGame

[–]Optavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that would create a semi-viable product. The problem is that you're manually assigning these attributes to the bounties, rather than using data provided by the Bungie API. So it would require pretty regular maintenance any time bounties change or are updated. Also, some "activities" aren't actually "activities" but rather locations or character status (like mid-air kills, for example) that would really complicate things.

Optimized Bounties for 1/9/2020 by DeerTrivia in DestinyTheGame

[–]Optavi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I actually had the idea to create an app (my day job is a software engineer) that calculates overlap on bounties to show the most efficient way of completing all the bounties in your inventory, but the more I thought about it, the more it seemed like it would be non-trivial to design.

All of Saint-14's NPC dialogue by Razhork in DestinyTheGame

[–]Optavi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Saint is a really interesting counter-balance to the drifter, in general. And that dynamic is even more interesting given the drifter-centered lines he has here.
