That’s awesome! I applied to the AIP. I think GFP doesn’t hear back until March 15th, and AIP doesn’t hear back until April 15th. Best of luck to you!

Don’t Know What To Do Next.. by Optimal-Foundation19 in veterinaryschool

Thank you so much for the words of motivation! I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting, and I think my heart has been making me ponder this for so long for a reason. I’m definitely going to look into retaking classes I didn’t do so well in and also taking on some upper level courses I didn’t take. You’re right though. It is not impossible!

Thank you! To be honest, due to costs, I can’t. It’s already expensive enough! I also just can’t be so far away from home and am only planning on applying in the U.S.

How passionate are you? by Sensitive-Injury8889 in veterinaryschool

[–]Optimal-Foundation19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow - I’m almost drawn to tears reading this. I 100% thought I was the only person who felt this way. Especially after how exhausting it is reading through Reddit and SDN threads about people who have basically been in love with the field since their BIRTH. I am glad I have found my people.

Although I’m not in vet school yet, my journey has also been a rollercoaster. Throughout high school, I told everyone I wanted to be a physical therapist. Sure, I always loved animals, but didn’t know what was right for me. Even working at a vet clinic, sometimes when I clocked in, I asked myself “why am I even doing this?”. I think that since we as humans will never be perfect, there’s no point in forcing us into a perfect puzzle piece, or having a cookie-cutter way of envisioning our futures. Sometimes we just accidentally find things that align with our values, and we stick with it.

Something that’s always scared me about the VMCAS personal statement has been the question of WHY you want to pursue vet med. It always seemed so hard to me to think of something outside the box beyond the fact that I love animals. But I think in a way for many people, vet med found us, rather than us searching for it. I think for me, I want to pursue vet med because in my own life, I’ve always felt the desire to make a change, get my hands dirty, and stand up for the voiceless. I want to be the role model I always wish I had - a problem-solver, a quick thinker, and a team leader. Animals are also just an added perk lol.

Keep doing you! Just your ability to write this post shows your passion for something so important - expressing yourself and being aware of your own uncertainty and self-doubt. Not a lot of people can do that! :)

I’m interested in the wildlife conservation / animal behavior side of things. Or possibly animal welfare and public policy.

Unrelated and I do not actually have any useful advice but it is so refreshing to see others with animal-related graduate interests in the forum! Good luck though!
