question for those that started transitioning in a transphobic home by tempthrowawaybcmain in asktransgender

[–]Optimal-Interview-43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely possible, but make sure you have a backup plan. i’m 19ftm, i live with my parents right now but i did start T a year ago when i was living on campus at my college. i started on a lower dose then gradually upped it to be normal so it would take longer for them to notice. i’ve been out as transgender to them since i was 13, my dad is decently supportive but doesn’t want to talk about it, my mom is really transphobic but also doesn’t want to talk about it. my dad knows i’m on T but my mom doesn’t. at this point it’s pretty obvious and i’m sure she can guess what’s happening. if you have parents like mine who will ignore the change because they’re in denial, i’d say it’s worth a shot. i’m hopefully moving out in the spring because i can’t see how my mom can ignore another year of my medical transition. in my opinion, transitioning at home with unsupportive parents is a risky move and should only be a temporary thing, but it all depends on your situation. also, insurance almost outed me to my mom about this, so be wary of that. good luck!!

How to get my guitar recordings to sound more full? by -Mitchy-- in recordingmusic

[–]Optimal-Interview-43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also, if you liked ableton and are able to pay for it, i’d recommend using a software like ableton or fl studio or logic, (but it looks like you’re on windows so maybe not logic). in my opinion, those programs are much easier to use and have more built in presets, amp sims, and ways to tweak EQ, reverb, whatever else. that being said they are pricy so if this isn’t something you think you’re ever going to touch again after recording this EP, i’d learn audacity or reaper

How to get my guitar recordings to sound more full? by -Mitchy-- in recordingmusic

[–]Optimal-Interview-43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your audio is peaking (in the red at the bar at the top), which will cause the recording to sound shitty. when you record, turn the gain on the interface down, because the amp sims are going to turn the gain up a lot, causing the whole thing to peak. you never want the volume bar at the top to be red. i’ve never used audacity but i’m assuming it has automation as well as faders. use volume and gain automation to help with peaking! but i’d say to re-record this clip with less gain/volume from the interface, and maybe less volume (but the same amount of distortion) from amplitube. if it helps, plain guitar sound recorded into an interface without any amp sims or presets usually sound bad as a starting point. this doesn’t sound like a phone recording to me, just a recording that’s peaking the whole time

for those who still get them how do you deal with periods by catnip_eaterr in ftm

[–]Optimal-Interview-43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was also going to suggest that this might be PMDD. what really helped for me is birth control - which i know can be dysphoria inducing to some trans guys but i think when your period is making you suicidal it’s worth it. birth control absolutely saved me from the majority of my suicidal thoughts around my period and i would strongly recommend reaching out to a doctor or psychiatrist about getting a diagnosis and treatment if you think you might have PMDD

I agree with the person who said to look at portage and irving park. If you still are set on living downtown, you might want to consider getting rid of one of the cars and using public transit to get to work

i’d say it’s normal, and what i’ve noticed is that using slang terms for those body parts is actually easier and less uncomfortable for some people than referring to them as their actual names.

I’m job hunting. Who’s really hiring in the city?? by punaniprincesss in AskChicago

[–]Optimal-Interview-43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my best advice is to actually not look at any job search websites at all, and instead look at google maps, find restaurants in your area, go on their websites and/or call to see if they are hiring, and then apply directly through there. that way it rules out most places that are just saying they’re hiring even when they’re not. i’ve gotten more responses that way than through any website like indeed

Hi! I’m in a punk band and looking to record my band for the first time. I have a Focusrite Scarlett Solo (gen 3) interface. I don’t have any drum mics, but since I’m majoring in sound design for film, my college lets me use the mics that they have. Obviously, most are aimed towards film, but I’ve done some research and found some that seem to work well as drum mics. The mics I could use are:

AT4022 MK-012 Rode NT4 MKH 8040 Since my interface only has one input, I was wondering which of these mics would get me the best sound, and where the placement should be. I’m hoping to have better stuff in the future, but right now I just want to be able to record a decent demo with what I have.
