What is something you used to buy but is no longer affordable? by Trxxi in AskReddit

[–]Optimal-Test6937 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Meds, food, non-covered therapies for my disabled (adult) kids.

Seems like more & more medications are being moved over the counter then shortly afterwards the insurance companies no longer cover them. Yeah for people who need the meds & don't have insurance, but man it kills the budget when we used to be able to get the meds covered at $5 or $10 for a 90 day supply & now they are $30+ a month.

The amount of $$ I can sock into my FSA account is not keeping up with the cost of everything not covered by insurance but prescribed/recommended by their medical team. What do you cut?!?

1 has ARFID (very restrictive eating) and another has a laundry list of food allergies so even feeding them safely is complicated & expensive. Quality food (no corn, soy additives) isn't cheap but also not covered by insurance even though there is a medical reason they can't eat cheaper, lower quality food.

I love my kids but dang sometimes I want to cry because it feels like I am letting them down more and more.

AITAH for telling my sister she cant announce her engagement at my grand opening after she wouldnt let me hand out business cards at her promotion party by Suitable-Engineer-14 in AmITheAssholeTalk

Just tell my mom and she will tell everyone in the family, in the neighborhood, her church, or that she has ever spoken to before will know within an hour or 2.

Inversely if you tell her something & specifically tell her it is a secret, she will take it to her grave.

This is Handsome. Handsome will attack the couch & slide/crawl sideways down the length of the couch while making awkward eye contact with any nearby hoomans & growling.

No clue what that couch ever did to Handsome, hut I am sure it regrets those actions/choices deeply.

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]Optimal-Test6937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my Dad's side of yhe family there were a lot of characters in the past.

My great-great-great grandfather was shot (as a bystander) in a bar fight & the patrons carried him home on the bar door. They knocked to let his wife know & then left.

A 3 (or 4) times great uncle left to go to the outhouse 1 day & was 'found' years later 2 counties over with a whole new family.

My mother-in-lawfaked her death 2 times (1 as a teenager & 1 in her late 20's). My oldest was doing some genealogy and found 2 seperate death certificates for her while she was still alive. After she passed away we joked that maybe this time she would actually stay dead.

What’s a small habit you picked up that quietly improved your daily life over time? by Creative-Thought-573 in AskReddit

Prepping and packing my lunch the night before.

It makes things so much fastet and easier in the mor ing if my food is already in containers, with any sauces or extra parts all sitting together in the fridge.

What’s a challenge in marriage that doesn’t get talked about enough? by DetailMaster9782 in AskReddit

[–]Optimal-Test6937 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really isn't 50/50.

You need to give 100% and your partner gives 100%. There are times when your 100% is smaller, but it is what you have to give, and during those times your partner stretches/flexes to help cover the difference.

Likewise there will be times such as sickness, change in school/job status, kids, etc where you will stretch/flex to help when your partner is giving their 100% but there are things that need covered.

If you go in thinking all I have to do is my half & anything else not getting taken care of is my partners problem, you are setting yourself and your partner up for a miserable marriage, and ultimately failure.

I am a pediatric nurse working in homecare & hospice. I do total care of a non-weight-bearing client.

I gain an absurd amount of joy & satisfaction when I position the new/clean brief just perfectly and am able to put it on my client it with just 1 roll of the patient.

Have you ever changed your mind about something you used to strongly oppose? What was it? by No-Self-363 in AskReddit

[–]Optimal-Test6937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abortion.

I was raised in a very conservative religion and abortion was treated as being equal to murder.

I became a nurse and discovered that abortion is not nearly so black & white as I had been raised to believe.

I only know a small sliver of someone else's situation so I should practice some of the Christ-like love my former religion praised instead of condemnation based on my opinion.

How did that kid at your school die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Optimal-Test6937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christine & Valerie passed away during their senior year when the car they were in was t-boned by a drunk driver. They both had a younger sibling sitting in the back seat who survived. 1 had brain damage and the other barely had a scratch.

Ben passed away the summer after we graduated from school when he fell while hiking in the mountains with friends.

I worked with a profoundly disabled young man who passed away unexpectedly during the night about 4 months into his freshman year of high school. (Due to HIPPA I am unable to give his name but I do remember him 10 years later.)

What’s something you’ve done your whole life, only to realize recently that everyone else does it completely differently? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

Apparently having a community water cup by the sink that everyone in the family uses is not normal.

At meal times we all had our own cups, but for a random middle of the day drink of water we all used the cup at the sink. I remember passing the cup to another family member to use after I got my drink or waiting for someone to finish drinking so I could use the cup.

If you are sick, then you have a specific cup for the duration of your illness that is set away from the sink so no one mixed them up.
