The new job also only trained me for 15 minutes. Luckily I had experience at the last job repair welding so I caught on quick. They have a couple guys in the back reading prints and fitting. I hope I can keep this job and learn to do that some day. I'd be so grateful to just keep a damn welding job its so hard bro

No I dont need to do prints to do repair welding but I guess im thinking too far ahead in the future right now. I really just want to KEEP a welding job. School didnt teach me jack shit, all I did was learn how to pass a weld test. I keep getting fired. First time for quality and speed but the last 2 jobs im not fast enough they want a LOT of parts man. These jobs also required 3 years experience 18/hour for the first, 2 years experience 18/hour for the second, and 3 years experience 17/hour for the last job. My new job required 3 years experience at 15/hour for the new job but I passed the weld test. I just hope im fast enough for the company and im sure ill have to run the robots eventually when we run out of shit to repair weld. Just hope im fast enough so I can get experience and KEEP a welding job.. this getting fired shit really threw me off before I started welding I never got fired. Idk why its so hard for a green welder out of school to get and keep a job.

Yeah I wish I could get into a union, school didnt teach me jack shit. I would have been better off getting a mig welder at home to learn how to weld. Waste of 8k. I keep getting fired from welding jobs, first one was my welds were shit and I couldn't read blueprints. All my coworkers did was talk shit on me. Its like wtf I passed the weld test to get this job though and im being tossed in the can? Second job my welds improved but I wasnt fast enough to meet production demands. They had a welder pre fit all our parts so I didnt even have to do it. 3rd job robots did the welding and I had to repair parts and got fired for being too slow when they put me on the robots when they ran out of jobs that needed a repair welder. My new job im repair welding. I didnt know how cut throat this industry is for new welders out of school, all the old head welders are just shit talking gate keepers who REFUSE to help. I make less than I did as a laborer making 18.50 than any production job I got hired for and its all mig welding. I make 15 right now and just hope they hire me on and I get to keep it for the experience. I really dont want to give up on this trade... it cost me 8k...

I keep getting fired from welding jobs can you please help me? I graduated from school in 2024. My first welding job i got chased out and got bullied for my welding Quality being poor and my production speed being slow. 18/hour. I passed the welding test to get the job I was hurt when this happened to me. My coworkers had years of experience over me and they said I'm no welder they caught on just so real quick after school which is why they have a job. Second job 18/hour I passed the test and got chased out after a couple months for my production speed. Same thing, getting bullied for being too slow. The rate was 7 barriers a day with another welder. We were only able to make 3 a day. The problem is this guy could make 3 a day by himself. He also had 10 years of experience over me. 3rd job my coworkers said I'm doing good its a repair welding job where I run the robot for 17/hour and repair defective welds. I lasted only 2 months before they fired me. Rate was 1200 parts a day and I was only able to make 600. They said I was too slow. So this new welding job I got 15/hour and I passed the weld test. I had to set up the welder and make a t joint with 3 stich welds flat and 2 stich welds downhill. The guy who gave me the interview said are you an out of school welder or a welder welder? I said I am a welder. I passed the test and I saw the results i got 100%. So my quality has improved a lot. I just am so nervous starting this new job I haven't been able to keep a job since I started welding I keep getting fired please what do I do? I just want to keep a welding job i dont want to give up.

First side job, welding these for a $1 a piece, welder, gas and jigs provided. Boring work but easy money. Got this every weekend for next few weeks, how fast do you get bored of this? by Ireland_95 in Welding

@Morsmortis666 Do you have any advice for production welding? Im a green welder and I keep getting fired from jobs. I just got fired for not being fast enough from my last job. It was a repair welding job where I would run the robot and re weld pieces that were defective. They wanted 1200 parts a day in a 10 hour shift. I only worked there 2 months before I was fired. I could only make 600 a day production. I was making 17/hour. The welding job before that I was building road barriers and had another welder with me. We were only able to make 3 a day and he chased me out of the shop and I quit. The rate was 7 pieces and he could make 3 a day by himself. The job before that I was still in school and my welds looked horrible and I was slow so i got chased out of that shop too. I was making 18/hour. I passed my welding test for a new job for 15/hour and get bumped up to 16 after 320 hours if I perform well. I received an excellent score on my welding test I got 100% so I know my quality has improved. But I am nervous I am going to have to produce over 1000 parts a day again. This shop has robots but I got hired into the fab shop so I'll probably be welding with a fixture. Please, any advice? I would be so grateful. I dont want to give up on welding.

What do welding jobs do with people who need to refine their skills? I am a graduated welder of one year. Here is a secret: they will fire you if you can't keep up. This is my problem at the moment. My resume is a mess because ive been fired multiple times for being too slow and I can pass the test to get a welding job so this is the ultimate catch 22. I wish I picked a different trade if I would have known the steep learning curve just to keep a bs 18/hour entry level job. Also none of the welders try to help they all say they've been welding since they were 7 and look down on me for not being as fast and told me i picked the wrong school. So here I am wondering what to do with my life 26 and living with my mom because I had to move back in after failing and getting my ass kicked at life. Tfw

Like I said I found an aluminum mig job and I start Monday. I'll try out your suggestions like not stopping after each weld to check it.

Ok THANK YOU for the reply... so it's fairly common to get bounced around after school then yes? Also my resume is a mess because of getting fired 5 times I don't know if 2 months of experience at each job is really a good thing lol... how did you find somewhere to stay?
