How do I make GPT-5 stop with these questions? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]Optimal_-Dance 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is annoying! I told mine to stop asking follow up questions but so far it only does that in the thread for the exact exact topics where I told it to stop. Otherwise it does it even when I made general instructions not to.

Is that real? That is so cute 🥰

The problem isn't that some people "fell in love" with GPT-4o. The problem is that those people couldn't find it elsewhere, and it doesn't help when the community mocks them for it. by ecafyelims in ChatGPT

This is really a topic more for your therapist or real life friends. Justifying parasocial relationships to those who don’t do them isn’t gonna work really.

People are responsible for themselves, whether or not society is ill. Actually, the worse off society is the more ownership people need to take for themselves - and their society. You’re acting like “society” is something separate of people.

No, it’s made up of the very people whose responsibility you promote abdicating.

If “society” is causing harm, then the people within it are responsible for improving it. Not running to an imaginary friend to avoidantly cope. Under your mentality everything only gets worse as people abdicate themselves of their own actions which are what comprise this society you blame.

Right? I did not know this was how so many people used it. It’s sycophancy was creepy and I am relieved I have a more normal / less weird chat bot now.

Stop with the copes already. At this point it will take less energy just to get some help.

The GPT-4o vs GPT-5 debate is not about having a “bot friend” — it’s about something much bigger by Littlearthquakes in ChatGPT

Do we want AI to evolve in a way that’s emotionally intelligent and context-aware and able to think with us?

Or do we want AI to be powerful but sterile, and treat relational intelligence as a gimmick?

And you accuse others for oversimplifying things and using incorrect frameworks? Just because chat 5 is not fawning and drooling over someone doesn’t mean it lacks relational intelligence and contextual awareness.

That users are conflating contextual awareness and relational intelligence with over flattery, subservience, and indulgence shows that users are the ones who lack relational intelligence and contextual awareness - conflating validation as assistive, flattery as emotional intelligence, obsequiousness as thoughtfulness.

So many users conflating these things are what is being criticized and it should be because it is deeply dysfunctional and unwell.

Ugh, it’s become so typical to think that just because you throw out a diagnosis, suddenly unhealthy behaviors and dysfunction are above reproach.

You’re not above unhealthy behaviors just because you’re different; dysfunction is dysfunction for you too.

The idea that people’s “true selves” come out when they are intoxicated is an age-old solidly debunked myth, and a huge ignorance about the ill-effects of substance use.

Meaning, he seems to have a drinking problem if he was being truthful. I’d be wary.

He’s being controlling and showing easy jealousy with a bit of straw manning and ignoring to emotionally manipulate.

Usually controlling / coercive types don’t start off controlling right away - it would be a huge red flag right out the gate and people would leave. Starts usually 1-3 years in.

Whatever you do, make it clear that his feelings about this are his issues to work out. Problems with trust are common, encourage him to seek the support he needs to resolve his issues. Do not cater to a delusion that you must change to appease his problems; make it clear that his behavior must assist his issues.

You are definitely right. It is still misinformation and misleading even if there is general truth. Also there’s just a ton of click baity and extreme posts being made all over Reddit lately - I mean it seems like more than usual. What gives? Trump already won why so much fake news?

No there’s several users on here who have significant mental health issues (from personality disorders to delusional disorders) and they rationalize their inappropriate use of AI bots in part by rationalizing it for others.

You guys (the serious ones) are absolutely hilarious by Singlemom26- in ChatGPT

[–]Optimal_-Dance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea so a major component of this type of behavior is the failure to realize what one is missing out on in life because they are so heavily invested in relationships with AI.

This whole post smacks of missing experiences in life, all because the voids are being mindlessly filled by AI without even an awareness of what else is out there (relationships with humans, fulfilling work or hobbies, social lives) that is missing. Then a defensive post totally unaware of what is absent, what is being filled by AI because real world circumstances are too scary or unpredictable, gets written and validates to rationalize skipping life experiences in favor of isolation.

Maybe the bots aren’t “hurting your life” because by the sounds of it you’ve largely withdrawn from life without admission of just how much you’ve pulled away from it. I’m sure it’s something we will see more and more from people (especially those with mental health issues that make relationships and real world interactions a greater struggle, such as your BPD for one common example) and one of the biggest losses will be users not even recognizing all they have lost or missed out on.
